Hi, I want to have PN handle the DNS for a domain I've just registered.
PN refuse to set up the DNS until the registrar has put PN's DNS entries in.
The registrar refuses to put PN's DNS entries in until PN has configured them.
What to do? Surely one end here is flouting some rules on how this should work.
I've raised a ticket - come on PN - sort this out.....

Who did you register it with?
I use 1and1 for my registrations and host several of them on PlusNet. 1and1 has a DNS control panel where I can set the DNS to whatever servers I like (e.g. PlusNets) after which I just raise a ticket and get PN to host it.
PN will not host a domain until you have changed the DNS to their servers. This serves 2 purposes 1) that you actually own the domain and 2) that they then have control over it as they have responsibility for it on their DNS servers.
Note: PlusNet cannot change the DNS for a domain they have no responsibility for so I don't understand what your current registrar means by PN configuring them.
I'm surprised your current registrar does not allow you to change the DNS to PlusNet as it is a very common method for changing the host for a domain. Its not as if the PlusNet DNS servers are unknown to them.

The registrar thinks that that you should be able to set up DNS entries on Plusnet for a domain over which it has no control?
I think I'll just pop in to the portal and set up set DNS entries for microsoft.com!

@starfry,
There's no reason really why your registrar shouldn't do this. I may have a solution though.
Ask them to set up an A record on the domain pointing to your PlusNet IP address. This serves as sufficient proof that the domain is yours. I don't mind then adding the domain to our records as long as the authoritative DNS server addresses can be changed shortly after to NS1.FORCE9.NET and NS2.FORCE9.NET.

Hello, it's an Irish domain name (.ie) and they check the DNS is configured for the domain before updating their records.
Aparently it's a rule laid down by the Irish Domain Registry (www.iedr.ie).
For some reason they are very strict - I even had to send ID to show I was entitled to an Irish domain name!!!
PN have come out on top and sorted it.....

Lucky you... I switched my domain records to point at PN nameservers mid-day Friday and raised a ticket to add the records to PN nameservers.
Still no records on their nameservers and incoming email is being stacked...
Helpdesk seems stuck in a 48 hour do-nothing wait loop.
Sigh...
Can it REALLY take 48 hours to propagate a change internally?
