DNS Server problem?

Not sure if I have the right forum for this.
I am experiencing problems accessing www.motorcaravanners.eu . I have tried on numerous occasions not only today but on other days over the past week and not succeeded once. I have contacted the webmaster by email and he assures me that all is well with the site so this would point to a problem with PN's servers.
Anyone else experiencing problems with .eu sites?

Re: DNS Server problem?

So how does one switch to an Open DNS?
And should I raise a ticket?

Re: DNS Server problem?

Thank you all for the help and pointers. Sadly I have to log off as we have an evening out (in this awful weather too!). Will pick it up in the morning.

Re: DNS Server problem?

If you have a Thompson router it isn't easy - you will need to follow the instructions here http://community.plus.net/library/hardware/how-to-change-the-default-dns-servers-in-a-thomson-speedt...

Re: DNS Server problem?

My router is a Netgear DG834G and allocated DNS Servers as follows:
Primary - 212.159.6.10
Secondary - 212.159.6.9
With the info from the link Old Jim provided (Thank You OJ?!) I have set the router as follows:
Primary - 212.159.6.10 (Plus Net Server)
Secondary - 208.67.222.220 (OpenDNS)
I am now able to access the website.  Smiley
A ticket has been raised.

Re:DNS Server problem?

Hi guys,
Tried an nslookup on that on all four of our servers (6.9, 6.10, 13.49 and 13.50) and it's still failing, though working fine on openDNS. I'll push that ticket up to networks and see what they're saying, we might well need a problem on this. More updates to follow shortly.

Re: DNS Server problem?

Does the Plusnet team communicate with each other? Just thise week I raised a ticket as site and forum I visit on a regular basis was no longer displaying the latest pages. I knew the site had moved servers so thought this was a DNS issue with Plusnet.
The staff asked me to do the usual stuff like clear out my IE cache and DNS cache, which I had already done as well as testing the page on other peoples Plusnet connections which all gave the same result. Using OpenDNS or BT's DNS server and Plusnets connection indeed corrected the problem.
Upon raising a ticket I wa told it was not possible for tis to happen with the way Plusnets DNS servers work, and they would like to test my line which they supposedly did last night. However after reading this post it makes me wonder. I knew testing my line was a waste of time, as it was DNS issue not a line issue.
The site is www.wegotserved.com
Lets Hope this get's resolved quickly.

Yes, however I'm not convinced your problem is anything to do with this.

It may well be a propagation issue, when did the hosts move servers?

Which seems odd because both our servers and OpenDNS's resolve to exactly the same IP address! Huh
OpenDNS:
C:\Users\Bobby>nslookup wegotserved.com 208.67.222.222
Server:  resolver1.opendns.com
Address:  208.67.222.222

Name:    wegotserved.com

Us:
C:\Users\Bobby>nslookup wegotserved.com 212.159.6.10
Server:  ptn-cdns02.plus.net
Address:  212.159.6.10
Non-authoritative answer:

Address:  67.215.245.90

In fact have a look at the attached screengrabs, one is taken whilst using OpenDNS name servers, the other using Plusnet's. Doesn't look to be a great deal of difference to me? Huh

Doesn't look like a DNS issue to me (at least not any more).
BTW, are you able to power your router down again tonight as we didn't get the chance to do the dial test last night?

Re: DNS Server problem?

Hi Bob,
The site moved about 2 1\2 weeks ago. Having just VNC'd into my home network I can confirm that the issues seems to have been resolved, as the updated pages are now showing.
2 1\2 weeks is an awaful long time for the propergation of a new address for a website, I still feel this was a DNS related issue. However, the issue is resolved and for that I thank the Plusnet team. I will close the Tickit this evening when I arrive home.
Thanks
