Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

These network problems reported yesterday, are they actually fixed? I see a few other complaints on board. I had a few disconnects yesterday. Then seemed fine last night. But when got up early to do some work before go out now, there's been no end of disconnections. Rebooting router and leaving off for half an hour made no difference. Connection is up and down like a fiddler's elbow and now gotta go out without work done.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Hi
Can you look in your router log to see what the reason is for the disconnects? There are no reported issues with Plusnet's network.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Hi,
Just got back home. Seems connection has been up for nearly two hours now at least. These are the last disconeections in router log.

Aside fron yesterday/today my net connection has been performing pretty good the last few weeks. Before then, there were some serious issues. First some problem with the box that serves my street. After Openreach came to fix that, I ended up without net/telephone for few days. Their 'engineer' had rewired box so all houses in street got calls for other numbers. Ours he can kindly decided not to bother to reconnect at all ... completely dead line.  Roll_eyes
As their continued to be some occasional disconnects, I decided to take internal wiring almost completely out of the question. I fitted an ADSL faceplate, rewired the phone extension and was able to remove filters from the house. Now connected to the ADSL plate in mastersocket, my line speed increased dramatically within the hour. I was getting 5000 kbps before. After fitting the ADSL faceplate, these have been the most recent results:

Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 14:57 11645 kbps (1.46MB/s) 642 kbps (80.3kB/s) Share
Aug 12, 00:57 12145 kbps (1.52MB/s) 575 kbps (71.9kB/s) Share
Jul 29, 22:15 9664 kbps (1.21MB/s) 728 kbps (91kB/s)

So I more than doubled my speed and stability hugely increased now everything is wired to the new ADSL plate in main socket. If all the disconnections yesterday/today are not down to the reported problems yesterday, hopefully there was some local work going on. I'm in west Cornwall.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

It doesn't look like a Plusnet problem as you are losing sync with the exchange not just a PPP drop
I would recommend raising a fault at https://faults.plus.net

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Thanks, Oldjim. Since those  take forever to get answered these days, I thought I might just as well wait till a Plusnet member of staff hopefully notices the thread and takes a look.

I would do both - at least you have the ticket that the guys on here can see.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Hmmm, I took your advise of going to report it at fault troubleshooter too. Since there's slight crackling on phone line, I chose to select the 'line is noisy' option, instead of clear. Now I get the 'not our fault, gov' message from Plusnet troubleshooter, contact phone provider.  Roll_eyes
Oh well, I'll see what plusnet member of staff says do when they eventually notice thread. Hopefully, it's local problem that gets fixed.  Undecided

If your phone provider is Plusnet you can raise a phone fault ticket at https://portal.plus.net/wizard/?p=wizard&page=22945&wizard_id=38

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Thanks, but it's not unfortunately. For phone I have BT. I guess they're one and the same thing in terms of ownership, but not billing.

BT have an online test for faults - try this as it might pick something up.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Managed to go six hours today until I just got disconnected again twice in ten minutes. Phone line doesn't sound noisy today. If disconnections continue, can someone from Plusnet suggest if raising SNR Margin again would be worth trying.
Since I installed an ADSL faceplate my speed jumped from 5mb/s to 12mb/s in last couple of months, so I can lose a little speed for increased stability without much worry. My current SNR Margin is 6db. Would raising it to 8 or 9db make a difference?

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

Are there no Plusnet staff here on Mondays? I've been disconnecting getting on for 10 times in last hour. Did line test on BT site and it reports no problem with line.  Roll_eyes
My net is next to unusable now.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

After connection was dropping every few minutes, I went up in the loft and found an old Netgear DG834 I had used in the distant past on Plusnet. Settings didn't need changing. Net hasn't disconnected since I connected it instead of the Thomson TG585 v8. Let's see how it goes. However, I'm not sure that any improved stability might be down to vastly different speed and SNR margins reported with the Netgear.
These are my most recent stats with the Thomson:
Today 15:08 DownStream Connection Speed 11887 kbps (1.49MB/s)
Yesterday 14:57 DownStream Connection Speed 11645 kbps (1.46MB/s)
SNR Margin: 6db
This is test with the just connected Netgear
DownStream Connection Speed 7651 kbps
SNR Margin: 13db
Don't understand how SNR Margin reported on Netgear after it just plugged in can be reported double. Thought that was set by ISP for the line. Is the netgear's top speed limited? But anyway, it's stable for now.

Re: Countless Disconnections Since Early Morning

It is possible that the automatic systems at the exchange (which aren't controlled by the ISP) have increased the default noise margin from 6dB to 12dB because of the disconnection problems
It has probably fixed it but doesn't explain what caused the problem in the first place
