Could it be true?

Keeping my exchange private so no links provided.
I saw the following on the Kitz website, what does "21CN WBC (Broadband) RFS date 31.05.12" mean?
Does it mean that we are getting 21CN?
If so why does it say "21CN due : (PSTN) info N/A"
Also how can I find out if my exchange supports ADSL2
Thanks!

Re: Could it be true?

I believe the 21CN WBC means that ADSL 2+ should be enabled on that date.

Re: Could it be true?

21CN PSTN was the project to transfer of the 'voice' part of the phone network to the 21CN network which was 'suspended' by BT in 2010.
I think this really means "abandoned"
As I recall it was a change to an IP system of handling voice calls - much like VOIP now operates
I'm not conversant with the technical aspects so cannot add anymore - sorry
The roll out of 21CN WBC being the broadband side is accelerating will eventually cover the whole country and every exchange and all the old 20CN equipment will be removed from the exchanges.
This old stuff anyway dates from the early 2000's and is coming to the end of its life and spares will be becoming difficult to obtain.
ADSL2+ becomes available at an exchange when 21CN WBC becomes active at it.
The 'RFS' is shorthand for Ready for Service and is BT's estimate of the date when it will be active.  It might be early, it might be late............

Re: Could it be true?

Majority of the  ADSL equipment  I would say is less than 5 years old. Every speed increase meant new equipment so most equipment was installed for ADSLmax

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Zap,
According to the BT Availability checker it seems that 21CN is not available until 31st August. Sad

Re: Could it be true?

Thanks to all, so Kitz got my hope up with May but Jo brings me down with a thump with August.
Am I right in thinking I will not have to pay any more than I do now?
I have a brand new ADSL2 router in my loft, any benefit in installing it sooner?

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Zap,
That's right, it won't cost you any more. You can't do any harm adding a new router. However, if the router you have at the moment is working ok, I'd leave it.

Re: Could it be true?

Thanks Jo
Great, about time my speed was improved.
I take on board your suggestion about the router, no point changing it unless I get an improvement.
I tried to put a new one with to rationalise my kit and despite it being an identical model but with wireless it gave me a load of errors so I have had to go back to the old one.
Now I have to wait 3 days for the exchange to realise all is well as it has downgraded my connection because of all the reboots.
I had it on 6.5 out of 7gb before but now the exchange has be at 3.7gb
Oh well, 47 hours passed so just another day to wait.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Zap,
I think you'll be waiting forever, as your current sync rate is 3776 with an SNR of 19dB, so your profile won't be going anywhere. I'll reset the SNR, as your experimenting will more than likely have caused the rise in SNR. I'll get back to you shortly once it takes effect.

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Zap,
Managed to get it up to 6000k so you should see that take effect shortly.

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Jo
THANKS a LOT!
Speed back up to 6304000
Amazing how much difference it makes to the connection.
You are obviously a useful person to know
Shame I can't return the favour
One thing, having been a customer for many years I realised that you could fix this by performing some "magic" at your end, yet when I raised a ticket they just told me to wait 3 days.
Again thanks a lot!

Re: Could it be true?

Hi Zap,
You're welcome. In most cases when your BT profile lowers you will have to wait on average 72 hours for it to lift. This time it was a slightly different issue, so it's not always that simple. Glad to have helped though.
