Could I use DGN2200v3 for fiber instead of TG582n?

Just received my TG582n and decided to look it up. I'll be honest, when I opened the box, I thought it looked cheap and nasty, turns out from the web results it's just as bad performance wise. I was just wondering if I would be able to use my Netgear DGN2200v3 ADSL 2+ router for my plusnet fiber? It's a really good router  and I don't want to have to use the 582n if it's rubbish. I live out in the sticks and the speed it bad enough as it is, I don't want a rubbish router slowing it down even more!
Any help would be great

You can't use an adsl router on fibre, you need a "cable" router. BT supplies the modem, and the router is plugged in to that via a wan port, then the connection is made via a ppooe connection.

It's the wireless performance of the TG582n that lets it down. You could connect the Netgear to the TG582 to use it's wireless and turn off the wireless in the TG582. To do that you have to turn off the DHCP in the Netgear and also give it a 192.168.1.* IP address.

You could try the 582n to see if it's good enough for you - if your FTTC speed estimate isn't that high, and the 582n only needs to be faster than that, then it should be easier to achieve.
You could also install the latest 10.2 firmware on the 582n and enable various settings to improve the wireless: http://npr.me.uk/telnet.html#w300

Netgear DGND3700v2 are far the best router, it support five mode: ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+/Cable/FTTC and it a dual band wifi too. Superb wifi.
