Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

Hi
we've had nearly constant disconnects on our broadband at least since I got back last night at 6.30. The weather has been particularly gusty all night (I don't suppose this has any bearing? - possibly not..) much like it was back in January when the last disconnect problems began with our first plusnet-supplied router.
Any suggestions would be great, it's completely unusable at the moment unfortunately. I'm hoping it's not time for another router, we've only had that one a couple of months.
thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with a dropping connection.

I think the graph shows just how bad it really is. Would you be able to connect an alternative microfilter in the first instance to see if this stabilises things?

Mark,
That's grim!  Have you got a dial tone?  Is the line quite?  Dial 17070 option 2.  Is the router in the master socket?
Has there been lightening along with the bad weather?  Do you know if neighbours are also suffering similar issues?

Re: Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

Hi Chris
I'll see if I have one when I'm back home. I've just ordered a new modem/router (TP-Link TD-W8970) and that should arrive by the weekend - I've never been that happy with the level of signal around the flat with the existing router anyway. Worst case, hopefully the new one will help things too.
Will see if the microfilter makes a difference in the meantime though and update the post on here when I can.
thanks again
Mark

Hi Kevin
I haven't checked actually, will have a look tonight. No lightning that I was aware of, just really windy (we're on a hill in crystal palace). Will check with my neighbours this evening too and see if they're affected.
thanks

Is your line via underground cable, or pole? (Or don't you know?)

Re: Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

All appears to be working fine now. Installed new modem/router at the weekend and don't think we've had any disconnects so far. Service seems a little slower than it was but could this be related to all the disconnects?

Re: Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

That's most likely.
Your SNR has increased due to the disconnects. I can do an SNR Reset which should bring it back down which will improve speeds, however, if the router hasn't fixed the problem, it could cause the line to start disconnecting again.
Alternatively, we can let DLM sort the line out itself.

Thanks Chris,
tempted to leave as it is then and see where DLM gets us in the next day or two. It's not drastically slower than it was and at least it is working
Thanks again

Hi Mark,
Yeah, I know what you mean though, you know if you can get more out of your line, you're going to want to get it Smiley
No worries, if you do decide to go for a reset at any point, feel free to give me a shout.

Re: Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

Hi Chris
we still seem to be pretty painfully slow, so wondered if you might be able to do that reset and we'll just see how it goes?
Thanks again for your help

Re: Constant broadband disconnects since last night - any connection to weather?

Hi Chris
thanks, it still seems to be very slow though
Download speeds approx 2-4Mbps
Upload  speed effectively 0 (around 0.06)
Ping seems to wildly swing from 100 to 1500
Do I need to wait a couple of days for it to settle or is this a separate problem? Don't appear to be disconnecting at least!
Thanks again

Hmm I think there's definitely a problem with your line 😕
could you raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net?
