Constant FTTC disconnections

I currently have a ticket open regarding FTTC disconnections, but so far no fault has been found. So while I wait for on-going investigations I thought I'd ask here in case any specialists in the subject have ideas (so far BT do not).
I had FTTC installed last Wednesday, 10th October and I keep losing connection. Usually it reconnects straight away, but sometimes it takes several minutes. The GEA report confirmed a fault, which was passed to BT and an OR engineer visited yesterday to investigate. It was a little disconcerting that he knew nothing about the problem until I explained it, and I had to print out the GEA report Plusnet put on the ticket, and show it to him. I'm not criticising the OR engineer as he was excellent and spent a long time here fixing an unrelated problem that BT seemed to have forgotten about, but he didn't seem to know anything about how FTTC works. I say that because he made a comment about my distance from the exchange (not the cabinet) and seemed amazed at the speed I could get, and he mentioned the 10 day training period of ADSL and also he thought my ISP could reset the DLM. I'm sure that there is no training period and only an OR/BT engineer can reset the DLM.
The engineer tested my line to make sure there were no errors, and as expected there were none, and all the other parameters his gadget displayed showed no problem. He replaced the RJ11 cable from the modem to router, and (after I suggested it) re-crimped the wires in the connection box outside the house. My internal wiring has also been ruled out of being the cause of the disconnections.
The disconnections started at about 1 or 2 times per 24 hours during the first few days since installation (which I would understand if the initial speed was too high), then on Tuesday it happened 11 times in a period of about 6 hours, 13 times in total that day. Since then it's very roughly 4 times per day. My IP profile has reduced from 78Mbps to 60Mbps and interleaving is set to high (I imagine interleaving was off initially as my ping was an amazing 5ms for the first few days, but is now about 20ms). I would imagine the DLM assumed there are errors so it's taking me slower and slower.
As far as I am aware (I'm sure he would have mentioned it if he did), the engineer did not visit the cabinet. I would have thought this would be sensible with such a fault, just to re-attach the connections in case of dodgy joints.
Sorry for such a long post - I'm just trying to cover all the details. If anyone has seen this before, please let me know what was done to fix it. Also if you're an expert (work for BT/OR maybe), I'd appreciate your input.
