Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

Hi I've just connected a new router (Thompson TG585V8) with no problems. On checking 'Connectivity' at the Thompson Gateway Home Page it shows :
Internet
Enabled/OKConnectivity to Gateway (195.166.130.94)
Disabled/Not OKConnectivity to DNS Server 1 (212.159.6.9)
Disabled/Not OKConnectivity to DNS Server 2 (212.159.6.10)

With being able to connect to the internet OK, I thought there must be some connectivity to the DNS Server?
Would appreciate any help in how to correct this if possible
Thx

Re: Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

Hi,
I believe this is a reporting issue on the router, it's been mentioned on these forums a couple of times.

Re: Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

One quite recent post about this is as follows:
Quote from: spraxyt
Quote from: kosymodo
… Therefore I fired up the Thomson Gateway page, clicked on 'Broadband Connection', and clicked 'Check connectivity to the internet'.  Everything came up green ticks, except for Internet, which had 2 red crosses against the DNS servers 212.159.6.9 and 212.159.6.10

That doesn't indicate a physical fault with the router - it's a test or reporting bug. All samples do this, even when the router is working correctly.

Re: Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

OK so I should ask for a replacement 'Router', there's obviously some connection because 'am not having any problems surfing
Thx again

Re: Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

Why do you need a replacement router if the present one is working OK? The red crosses do not mean it is faulty.

Re: Connectivity To DNS server Failed?

As Spraxyt said, it's just a known quirk with this particularly model. All consumer routers are made to a price, and a seemingly common thread through the majority  is that often the firmware contains little oddities; some that do affect the actual function of the device but others, like this one, that don't cause any issue other than misinformation/confusion.
