Connection Problems

Hi all
I recently bought a TP-Link TD-8840T router to replace my aging 3-Com. One of the reasons I wanted to replace it is that the broadband connection over it would stop at least twice a day, yet the connection status on the router always remained connected. The connection was just un-usable.
I've managed to get the new TP-Link router connected, but this is also showing the same symptoms. Unfortunately though, it's doing it every hour or so!
The new router does have some diagnostic tools, which the old one didn't have. It shows that, when this issue occurs, the diagnostics cannot ping the default gateway or the DNS servers, but the ADSL connection itself is still up.
Has anyone seen this before / know of anything that could cause this issue?
Cheers in advance
Andy

Re: Connection Problems

Hi Andy,
Your line is certainly stable;

I guess you're not able to ping from your PC/laptop either when you see this issue?
It might be worth running a traceroute via a command prompt to see how far it gets.

Re: Connection Problems

Cheers for the quick response  Smiley
I'm currently at work, so can't do a tracert, but you are correct in as much as I can't ping anything when this happens. At least, I can't ping the likes of Google or other sites outside your network. Thinking about it, I haven't tried pinging anything inside your network apart from the default gateway and DNS server pings that the new router attempts during diagnostics.
I've reverted back to my original 3-Com router until I can find a potential fix for this issue as it seems a bit more stable), but I'll swap back and do some testing this evening when I get home.

Re: Connection Problems

That would be great, can you also let us know which version of firmware your router using as well please? You should be able to find this by logging into your router Smiley

Re: Connection Problems

Well, I connected my new router up on friday evening to get some diagnostics done, and sod's law has struck Shocked
The router has been working perfectly all weekend (except for a small outage when it actually disconnected for some reason, but this wasn't the routing type issue I've seen earlier)
If there are any further routing outages over the connection, I'll run some diagnostics and post them in this thread.
Cheers
Andy
