Connecting a Linksys MR8300 Mesh Wi-Fi Router

Hi.

I need to connect a Linksys MR8300 Mesh Wi-Fi Router to my PlusNet Router 2704N,.

Do I connect this to ETH4, on the Router 2704N, the one with the Red Outline?

And, should I turn off WIFI?.

Thanks.

Re: Connecting a Linksys MR8300 Mesh Wi-Fi Router

You should use any Ethernet port except the one with Red Outline. It you no longer need the WiFi on 2704N, it's better to turn it off.

If you want to use MR8300 for routing, you'd need to put 2704N in bridge mode (so it'd function like a simple modem), more information can be found here https://community.plus.net/t5/Tech-Help-Software-Hardware-etc/Unlocking-the-potential-of-Sagemcom-27... and connect the "Internet" port of MR8300 to 2704N and set up PPPoE on MR8300. The downside is that MTU would be reduced from 1500 to 1492.

If you want to use 2704N for routing, you'd need to disable services like DHCP, UPnP etc on MR8300, and connect a non-Internet port of MR8300 to 2704N. The downside is that routing is performed on a less powerful 2704N.

A third simplest option is let both units do routing, but you'd end up with double-NAT which could cause problems to some Internet services such as gaming, P2P sharing etc.
