Connect at 6752 but....

I never get above about 4500 through put. TBH I'm not that worried but just curious. I get my connection through a fixed wired extension, with the bell wire removed ( at the main socket the orange and white is dangling) and when some time ago I connected to the main socket there was no obvious  speed gain. Is it just that my line is not the best.so that connection speed means little?
SNR is 9 in daytime and downstream attenuation 45/46

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

What does it say here?
For your sync it should be in the region of 6000.
If it's less than that it may be that you've had a sync that knocked your profile down a bit and you'll need to wait until it rises back up.  If it stays low after 3 days and you're still syncing at 6752 you'll need to give PN a nudge to get it aligned with BT's figure (which you can get by running the BT speedtester).
If it's saying 6000, tweaking your MTU and RWIN settings may be worth a go - have a look here for some info.  (Mine is set to MTU=1430 and RWIN=166800 on my Xp machine and gives me good results).

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

No: it's been steady at 6752 for some time now. Used to be around 5500 at most  a few months back, so a low sync is unlikely to be cause of discrepancy, What may I have missed?
BTW router is always on.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Did you check what PN have your line profiled at? What did it say on the page I linked to?
The figure will tell you if PN have set your line incorrectly - a sync of 5500 will give you a profile of 4500 and 6572 will give you 6000 so it may be that PN haven't set your profile correctly.
MTU/RWIN is worth a try as that may give you an increase in speed.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

@Paul03 Sorry I did not get back before; been enjoying a big band type concert Smiley
You're right. profile is stuck at 5500, and for some reason it's greyed out too. Isn't it usually in bold?
Perahps some one will look at it come Monday

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Turned on RouterStats and it has resychd over bight at an even higher rate, 7040
but as said the 6752 synch has been maintained for some while, and profile is still 5000.
TBH I'm puzzled about the synch rates, for as far as I know nothing has been going on at my exchange (Ringwood, Hants)
FWIW I have attached a RouterStats file.
Hopefully on of our bright PN lads will come up with something!
RouterStats log also added

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Fri, 2008-10-10 06:30:49 - Loss of synchronization :1
Sat, 2008-10-11 16:39:00 - Loss of synchronization :2
Mon, 2008-11-03 00:56:39 - Loss of synchronization :3

From the log the above are the recent sync losses after#2 I resynchd @6752 and after '#3 @ 7040
Has no one a clue or interest what is happening; why my profile speed is not only stuck but also not in the usual bold.
I suppose I could raise a ticket, but I have doubts about its effectiveness.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Your profile isn't stuck.  It's currently set to 5500Kbps.
To get a profile of 6000Kbps you have to sustain a sync speed in excess of 6816Kbps.
From what you've said, you've only been syncing above that since this morning.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Hi and OK Smiley TBH what I cannot fathom is why the syncs have increased so much recently. Before the 6752 I had obtained 69xx and now this latest over 7000. Yet there has been nothing obvious happening to cause the increase. Weird weird weird, and it is that which intrigues me.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

As per James profile is now 6000 Smiley but when I went in to RouterStats there is a footnote, "Interleaving appears to be turned off". IIRC there was a recent post that said it could be done on request to PN, but have not asked for it. It can be left as is now, but is there any potential problem witht he stats I posted as attachments earlier on with having interleaving "off"? Was it the interleaving staus change that brought about the faster sync?

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Sync speeds will generally be faster with interleaving off, though at the risk of instability.

Re: Connect at 6752 but....

Have a look here for an explanation of interleaving.
