Confusing information/test results

I used the OOKLA speed tester for my broadband and it gave me:

Download - 10.01

Upload - 0.79

Then I used the speed tester on the http://www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/ website

which gave me:

Download - 6.28

Upload - 0.59

I am connected wirelessly, trying to connect my pc/router directly to my master socket is virtually impossible due to the socket's position.

So, why are the results so different?

Separately I am on an Exchange Only connection and I have been told that I will not get fibre for a

very long time yet 50 yards from my front door a new fibre box has been installed and according to

"Connecting Devon & Somerset" website fibre optic will be available for my address on May 6th 2015

yet according to the http://dslchecker.bt.com/

it is not available which is repeated every time I contact PlusNet.

Hello there. Sometimes your throughput speed can vary depending on the speedtester, usually down to the website itself and how fast it responds to the request.

Testing over a wireless connection isn't 100% reliable too as wireless speeds can vary and fluctuate greatly.

If you would like to test your speed, I'd recommend using http://speedtest.btwholesale.com as that's our official one we use when raising faults, so we know it's reliable.

(Unless you're wanting to raise a fault, you can ignore the red guidelines, click the yes checkbox and then begin test)
