I am selling my home and internet is important these days. So I have been checking my speeds on different sites and on Win10. The Win10 speed on 3 site checks were giving me download 3.8mbps and upload .7 to .8. I live in the countryside and that is not too bad here. However, I tested this on three same sites on Linux Fedora 24 and I was just astonished at the lower figures it came up with. I would never have thought an OS would effect the speeds? Could someone explain why please?
And is there any unit I can buy to increase or boost the speeds?
Thanks for reading friends

Time of day can be significant, if your exchange is a bit overloaded.

I always use Ethernet cable. And I also have wireless as well. But that is always turned off. There are reasons I have both But 99% cable. I had just switched from Win10 to Fedora.

Check that your phone line has no interference (noise) on it.
The only unit which will give a much better speed is the day you get access to a fibre connection.

This is a small hamlet which I doubt will ever get faster broadband for quite a while.

You don't need to worry about MTU's - provided the router MTU is set correctly.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_MTU_Discovery
Linux handles RWIN's dynamically.

That link goes a little over my head. But I will digest and assess what I can understand. Thanks.
