Confused about profile

My Speed dropped slightly but my Sync rate increased so I ran a BT test
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 5152 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2771 kbps
How can I get back to around 4000 (or more) please
Been slow since Monday

Re: Confused about profile

Hiya,
Looks like you just had a brief blip in your sync speed.  I'd expect your speeds to pick up again in the next 24 hours or so.

Re: Confused about profile

Now I'm really confused.
I had to reysync last night (nothing to do with Broadband just needed to cut the power for another reason). I resynced lower but the test on BT now shows the IP profile increased (good) actual throughput though is very low.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 4704 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 878 kbps
The info on the member centre says my line rate is still 3000.

Re: Confused about profile

I'm having serious doubts about the BT Speedtest recently - it gives the expected 4000 profile for my 4768 sync, but the "Actual IP throughput achieved" is invariably very low, which is totally at odds with any other speedtester, general browsing and downloadiing, and the thinkbroadband tbbMeter.

Re: Confused about profile

Actually - you are right the PN speed test shows 2700, well down on previous tests - around 3600, but not as poor as BT suggest

Re: Confused about profile

Throughput speeds can vary significantly from one moment to the next at busy times. Try a couple of off-peak tests to see what may be achievable. Then if it's persistently bad at peak times you may have some issues.

Re: Confused about profile

To be honest I'm less concerned about the rogue low reading from BT. You get the odd short term slowdown dont you. I'm keen to get things stablised.
My concern is that according to BT my IP Profile is 4500 but I'm seeing speeds of under 3000.
When the IP Profile was  4000 (lower) I was getting speeds of around 3700 (higher).

Re: Confused about profile

Thanks for that - checked it and it's green so all good there.
I took another look at James excellent explanation on his blog.
It says
"You can also see your current profiled speed on our network, which is designed to mirror BTs IP Profile and is updated twice a day."

It looks like mine hasnty been updated as it still shows 3000 while BT;s IP Profile is 4500.
Do I need to restart my router to reconnect  get this changed?

Re: Confused about profile

Hiya,
I've just updated the profiling at this end to match the 4500Kbps at BTs end.
You may need to reboot your router to get the improved speeds.

Re: Confused about profile

Don't want to be a pain about this but it is still unclear to me. Crazy
I'm syncing now at 4832; slightly better than earlier in the week when it was 4704. When I was syncing at 4704 BT set my IP Profile at 4500. Why when I am syncing at a higher rate (4832) has the IP profile gone down to 4000.
Now I'm getting around 3700-3800 according to the speed testers so all is back to how it was before my blip. Its the illogical IP profile that is mystifying me now.
Other stats from my belkin router are

Noise margin
Down 9.8  Up19.0

Output power
Down 19.7  Up 11.9

Attenuation
Down 40.5  Up 23.0

Re: Confused about profile

A 4000 profile is correct for a 4832 sync speed. You need to sync at 5120 to achieve a 4500 profile.
Sync speed        IP Profile
from 4000kbps 3500
from 4544kbps 4000
from 5120kbps 4500

Re: Confused about profile

There's seems to be something radically wrong here, for a line of 40.5dB attenuation, you should be doing better.
Can you post some complete router ADSL stats, ie Sync Speed, Attenuation, Noise Margin, both Downstream and Up. Some stats from mid-dayish, and some from mid-evening.
Do you have any extension wiring - fixed or otherwise, what's your setup? (Is a ring wire connected?)

Re: Confused about profile

Thanks for your interest. - from memory as I'm not at home right now  Wink
I am not in the master socket, but am happy to trade speed for a convenient place to site  the wireless router.
Sync speed -  in the evening a reconnect will be around the 4832 posted sometimes 4700 ish. I've actually had around 5300 for the last few days . It was blowing a gale last night and it held the connection so I'm hoping this is going to be OK for a while  fingers crossed - and the IP profile and my account profile will catch up to more than 4000 in a few days.
Attenuation              Down 40.5  Up  23.0 Never changes
Noise Margin         Down 9.8  Up    19.0 though the Downstream can vary between 7-10.
Like I say I'm actually quite OK with what I'm getting now as I'm clocking a download speed of around 3700 - perfectly adequate for my needs.

what would you say would be "radically" right then
