Confused about figures.

Because I've been having fun and games with my wireless connection to my laptop recently (as looking at my Radius log will show), last night I I took these three pictures. I'm no expert, but something strikes me as not quite right.

Re: Confused about figures.

Hi jab1,
I've checked over your line and it doesn't look very good at all. Could you please raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net and complete the questions on the troubleshooter?

Re: Confused about figures.

Couple of thoughts (1) Can you post my Radius logs please Chris - just out of interest. (2) We did have an Openreach guy up the pole sometime in the last 10 days or so (can't remember exactly when), but this weird behavior predates that.

Re: Confused about figures.

Hi,
Here's your graph, as requested
<img src="http://community.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image13952316718416.png"/>
Our Faults Team should be able to get a good idea of the location of the fault. If they can't we may progress the issue for an engineers visit.

Re: Confused about figures.

Just as a point of interest - where did PN get that nice, but wildly impossible estimated line speed from? As I recall, the best I can hope for, and do occaisionally get, is 3.5?Huh

Re: Confused about figures.

What does it say for estimated speeds here http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ ?

Re: Confused about figures.

I think there's something wrong with the reported Line Attenuation.
Your line is actually shorter than the DSL Checks show - Faults will pick this up anyway.
If your Line Attenuation is showing higher than it should do, your speeds will be slower as a result - simply because the exchange thinks your line is longer than it actually is.

Re: Confused about figures.

The other thing...if you want faster speeds, fibre is available. Looking at those estimates, you must live a short distance from your cabinet.

Re: Confused about figures.

Yup, I know fibre is available, Andy, but for my usage pattern it is not really worth the extra cost - and I have just got a nice deal on plain vanilla BB.
I am only a short distance from my cabinet - if the trees and railway line weren't in the way I could probably hit it with a well-aimed cricket ball - well almost.  Smiley
Unfortunately, for some reason, although I'm under 2 miles from the exchange, the best I can get as I said earlier is 3.5.

Cheers again Chris - if I can get closer to the 7 in those shots - AND get a SNR that doesn't fall through the floor after sunset, I'll be a happy bunny.

Re: Confused about figures.

Right - additional info, if the post will load Smiley
Right on cue last night at 1915, my SNR fell below 1.0, and any internet activity was impossible. I attach a couple of RSL graphs from last night and one from this morning (which STILL shows a scarily low figure). I can still use the net this morning, but in the last 10-15 minutes I am getting pages not loading fully unless I refresh them two or three times.
Can someone pass this info to the faults team, please - I don't want to push my ticket to the back of the queue by adding to it.

Re: Confused about figures.

You've probably already tried this - but have you tried the test socket on the BT master socket?
I've got a Sky ADSL line and my downstream attenuation is 48.5dB and get 7.5Mb or so. I know with LLU, you get marginally improved sync speeds - but you should be getting nearly 2x what you're getting now.

Re: Confused about figures.

You've a ticket open which is with the Faults Team already. Our Faults Team will get back to you within the next 24-48 hours.
