Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

I've been migrated to 21CN over the past couple of days and I've been keeping an eye on my connection speed using http://speedtester.bt.com
When I run the test it comes back and says "The Performace Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput for this service is 6500k."
It reads like my speed has been set at 6500k and this has not change since I've been moved to the new 21CN service.
Can anyone comment what this figure actually means and what I should exepct to see?
Thanks

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

In isolation that figure doesn't help a lot. Please could you post the stats shown by your router (what make/model is this?) including mode (is this still ADSL1 (G.DMT)?), the downstream and upstream sync/line speeds, noise margins and attenuations. Help with obtaining these stats from your router is available here.
The IP Profile figure of 6500kbps you quoted is set by BT Wholesale based on your downstream sync speed. The stats mentioned will help determine if that is correct.

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

Hi, I've got a Draytek router, here are the stats...
ADSL Status Mode - G.DMT
State - SHOWTIME
Up Speed - 864000
Down Speed - 7616000
SNR Margin - 15.0
Loop Att. - 19.5
As you mention it appears I'm still connected as G.DMT.

Just found out if I connect to my router via the CLI rather than the http GUI I get more info...

 Loop Loss 19.5
 SNR Margin 15
 Errored Seconds 0
 Speed 7616
 Current line rate 6500

It definitely should be considerably quicker, albeit with a higher than usual noise margin.
Are you connected to your master socket?

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

Out of curiosity, what's the router model?
Does it support ADSL2+?

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

Yep, I'm connected to the master socket with a microfilter and BT i-Plate fitted.
My router is a Draytek 2800 series running the latest firmware, it is definitely ADSL2+ compliant. To quote the Draytek website...
ADSL Interface compliant with :

  • ADSL, RADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+

  • Impulse Noise Protection (INP) - (ADSL2+ full rate only when INP below 2)

  • SRA - Seamless Rate Adaptation (ADSL2/2+)

  • ATM Protocols : G.DMT, AAL5, ATM UNI3.1/4.0 PVC, up to 8PVCs, MPoA (RFC1483/2684), OAM F4/F5 Loopback (ITU-T I.610), ILMI.

  • Auto-Rate Negotiation (512Kb/s-24Mb/s Downstream). RADSL compatible.

As you can see from my previous posts the router isn't connecting at ADSL2+, it's on G.DMT.

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

I'm going to hang my head in shame for the rest of the day  Embarrassed
It appears my router doesn't automatically pick up the connection type,  it has to be set manually. I've not changed the settings on it for years so didn't even think to look.
I have the choice of...
ADSL2+ Auto(G.992.5)
ADSL2+ annex M
Can you clarify which I should be using?

It's running at G.DMT, which means it's maxed at 8 meg (7616 with interleaving on) so the SNRM will peak above the target.
With those stats you must be practically living inside the exchange!
I suspect there is an option within your router to change the ADSL Mode.  You'll need to change this to ADSL2+ (or it might be G.992.5), and then resync and you should see syncs topping 20meg on a good day, I reckon.

EDIT:  OP posted while I was composing.. I should be the base G992.5, NOT the Annex M for the 21CN product, I believe although I may stand corrected Smiley

Hiya,

Can you try using ADSL2+ Auto please?

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

I would be tempted to try with Interleaving off (an option that PN can request on your behalf).  It may introduce some instability but tbh, on your line I doubt that it would.
You're syncing just over 15meg, so your throughput speed I would expect to see around 13.5meg, give or take.  You'll need to wait for BT to increase your IP profile (usually after a few days, even during training) and then you'll need tot nudge PN to adjust their 'copy' of your IP profile to actually see the throughput speed.
You're also syncing at around 880k upstream, which is nice Smiley

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

You've almost doubled your downstream speed Smiley
Like Barry says, if you want to try it with interleaving turned off, we should be able to arrange to do that for you.

Why, not. James is this something you can arrange? I suppose this is reversible should I see a dip in service?
I'm very happy with the increase in speed seen so far. Smiley

Re: Configured Download Throughput Speed is 6500K

James should be able to put the order through to complete overnight, and the same will apply if it needs to be reversed. Smiley
It should bump your sync speeds up still further Smiley
