Configure router

Is it possible to configure my router prior to the connection arriving

There is no point in doing this before you are told to do so, in fact trying it could cause problems.

Just want to change the wi-fi SSID, so I can change all my devices ahead of time ...

 

There is always the reset button!

@BillyP that shouldnt be a problem. Just connect to the new router using a wired (ethernet) connection with the router disconnected from the phone line (or ONT if you are FTTP). Then go to 192.168.1.254 using a browser. You will need the router admin password ( on the back of the router ) to make any changes. Make sure to save any changes.
