Conclusion To My Fault - AThanks All And Plusnet

Firstly, these are my new Speedtest results:-
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3386 kbps
These are a vast improvement upon the test results prior to Plusnets / BT's help. Plusnet have been everything i would ask for, giving me prompt replies to my questions and sound advice.
The next question is, can improve my speed? i have limited hardware/extensions/filters etc..
IP profile, could anyone explain the term?
Cheers guys Cheesy

Regarding speed - can you post your router stats as the default noise margin may have been increased
IP profile
In simple terms BT automatic systems restrict your download speed to avoid packet loss.
Doesn't sound too bad does it except that a single low speed sync drops it immediately and it then takes 3 to 5 days to recover.
The IP profile is typically 500kbps below your sync rate.

Oldjim,
As requested, posted below. It sounds like the longer i stay connected, the better the connection will get?
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7392 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 db 17.5 db
Noise Margin 11.8 db 21.0 db
DMT to follow

Did you do a resynch as your speed has dropped.
It looks as though your default noise margin has increased to 12dB
After a week or so you should ask for it to be reduced to 6dB if things remain stable

Re: Conclusion To My Fault - AThanks All And Plusnet

I have had to place my Router in an old position that meant the use of an extension cable, im guessing that it the reason for the 300k loss? Bit of a shame but i need my Xbox connected via Ethernet.
At DSLZone my speedtest is coming up as 2226 Kbps, and a download rate of 278.19Kbps
Is this normal based upon the stats posted above?

It's a bit low - try this one http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
i wouldn't be bothered about the speed drop - when we get the noise margin lowered you will get full speed

Cool site,
3683Kbs download speed
377Kbps Up
Better?
Im guessing the speed tests vary due to programming/age?

Re: Conclusion To My Fault - AThanks All And Plusnet

I expect the sync spped dropped from 7648 because you resynced too close to dusk when noise levels are higher.
Considering the current sync speed I wouldn't have thought it worth bothering to reduce the SNRM, if things remain nice and stable it will be automatically reduced by DLM in due course. That IP profile should rise in a couple of days and once the PN profile (line rate) at the member centre catches up, your throughput speed should go up to match. Leave it a few days and then re-sync in daytime, at least an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. Hopefully you'll regain that 7648 sync rate, the maximum you're likely to get with your distance from the exchange on a line with interleaving on.
Don't forget we are into peak times now and throughput will be affected by exchange and network congestion.

Exactly the results I would expect from your IP profile
