Changed my deal and speed falls

This is how it is to-day, but my line has been good and stable for a while, now sudenly it has failed and although reWith this connected at a reasonable rate for my long line why has my speed been decimated ??This sort of result makes i player and skype useless

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

It is nothing to do with changing your account - this is what has killed your speed
IP Profile for your line is - 350 Kbps
Can you post the stats from your router - noise margin, speeds and attenuation

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

Because somewhere between yesterday and today (like overnight) you had a low sync event
Does the router log give the time it happened or the WAN (Internet) uptime

Note the sync speeds, noise margins and times

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

You need to find out what caused it to resync at such a slow speed. Often it's a simple as having a telephone or Sky box in another telephone socket without a filter.
Does the time help you identify what happened?

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

I have added extra information to my post above.
The first thing is that you have a very long line and will always struggle to get good speeds.
Can you describe the wiring in your property  -
Is there a master socket and, if so, are you connected to it.
Are there other sockets in the property in addition to the master socket

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

The wire comes into my loft from a post by the road from BURROWBRIDGE ( This exchange is actualy  in OTHERY a couple of miles further away about 4 miles in all) and to a b.t box (covered socket ) and then to the main socket a foot or so from the computer The bt box in the loft is the former main socket which B.T Extended from to make the  main socket  by my equipment This has an ADSL nation plate where the 2 wire 2700Hgv is pluged the phone socket has a double plug one to. The 2 wire has been less liable to drop than a previous Netgear DG 834 G  i do have The Plusnet Thomson, yet to be tried ,  but am reluctant to upset my present set up which has been reliable in the past
a phone on my desk ( hard wired ??) The other wire goes to a three handset walk around dect phone in another part of the house The B.T man came and checked it all not long ago, they did the wires to the socket. I see no reason why the line should drop this morning , we do have low flying helicopters here , and sometimes mains failure due to bird strike bit no this morning

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

The line dropped this morning because it was unable to hold sync due to very high error rates associated with a 3dB noise margin.
It doesn't appear that your internal wiring has much/any room for improvement.
Was there a phone call at the time of the disconnect - if there was it is possible that the ringing could have tipped the balance.
The point is that with the 2 Wire router it will hang on to the connection when other routers just give up the ghost but when it finally gives up at the time of maximum noise a resync takes you back to the default noise margin of 12dB which gives you the low sync speed.
I doubt that there is much you can do about it although a drop in noise margin from 12dB to 3dB is unusual. Can you monitor the noise margin in the evening and see what it drops to.

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

Could you try with the DECT unplugged and powered off for a bit to see if that improves things.
(I hope the DECT base unit isn't too close to the router! It needs to be a few feet away preferably)

Re: Changed my deal and speed falls

You are getting a HUGE swing in noise margin.
From the 2700 logs the first resync at
Quote
2010/01/18 21:05:51 GMT    1      1472    1476    664    664    12.0    3.0

as Jim said was due to the noise margin dropping from an initial 12 to 3db.
The second resync at
Quote
2010/01/19 06:41:41 GMT    1      512    540    1216    1216    12.7    19.0
shows that the noise margin had actually risen to 19db from an initial 12.7 and the 2700 apparently resynched because it recongnised it could retrain to a higher speed ( I didnt know it could do that !! ).  The final set of stats are, of course, showing the current status at 12db.
Have you looked at the Bit loading graph ( on the bottom of the DSL diagnostics page IIRC ) to see how that changes at different times of the day ? that might give a clue as to any possible external interference.

The noise margin does vary quite a lot , I will try to forward a copy of the graph
