Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

My planned change on 2nd July went without a hitch.
However on ordering the change I was advised that my estimated speeds would be 57 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upstream.
Since the changeover, I have checked daily (BTW performance tester) and my speeds have been 38 Mbps and 1.7Mbps  (yes, one point seven!).
Is there any obvious reason for the radically lower speeds than those estimated? Grateful for any advice.

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

There is a good reason... you were provided on a 40Mb/2Mb service. I don't know why that is though, and will be asking the agent who placed the order.
In the mean time I've placed a modify to move you onto 80Mb/20Mb which should improve things - that'll complete tomorrow. Really sorry about that.

Many thanks for your reply, and action, Matt.

Looks like the order's completed, hope you've noticed an improvement in the speeds?

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

I certainly have:
52 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up !
I'm quite happy with those speeds. Again, many thanks Matt for sorting that out for me.

A pleasure, though I must admit I'd rather you got that in the first place. Nontheless, glad it's all working and you're happy with it all - that's the important thing Smiley

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

Something very strange is going on.
Last evening my d/l speed was right down to 11 Mbps ! This morning it is up to 31 Mbps, still well short of  the 52 that it was.
Up speed has remained constant at 14 Mbps.
And clues as to what might be causing this?

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

No improvement since my last post.
After being changed to 80Mb/20Mb, my d/l speed was initially 52 Mbps as I reported, which was fine.
The next day it went right down to 11 Mbps and since then has varied between 20-34Mbps.
Upload speed has remained constant at approx.14-15 Mbps.
I can find nothing at my end to account for this. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is, and how I can get back to 52 Mbps?Huh

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

I've checked your connection and can't see any issues.
Are you connecting wired or wireless?

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

I have a wired connection via mains plugs. I live in a small flat, so it's a very short connection distance.
I've also tried a wireless connection and get almost identical results.

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

Are you able to try a direct connection straight to your router (bypassing the homeplugs) to see if there's a difference?

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

To try a direct connection I would need to buy about 12 metres of the correct (?) cable.
I will certainly do this if you think it would be worthwhile, Chris.
But the first day I was getting a steady 52 Mbps d/l using the homeplugs.

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

It's a case of eliminating potential causes. If you have a device that you can connect direct to your router then it's certainly worth a try.
I've checked over your connection again and everything looks fine.
Can you run a speedtest at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com and run further diagnostic once the speed test has complete.

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

Results of BTW speedtest:
D/l: 36.13 Mbps  IP Profile : 77.12  Mbps
Upstream:  15.07 Mbps. IP Profile: 20 Mbps
Latency  21.38
I'll get back to you when I am able to get a direct connection, but that might be after the weekend.
Thanks for your help, Chris

Re: Change to Unlimited Fibre - Speed issues.

We certainly can't see any initial issues that are causing this.
Let us know if you manage to try a wired connection, or if you're able to borrow a laptop to try a wired connection. If you have no improvment then I'd suggest raising a fault ticket with us via http://faults.plus.net and we'll investigate this further if need be.
