@SusyGee

Thanks for testing that, it was worth a look though just to ensure it wasn't at fault.

When you said "Both links didn't work" could you please clarify which links you were referring too?

Susy, have you ever been in your router and changed any settings other than the wireless SSID and password?

No - the router is the one supplied by Plusnet so I don't think I'd ever have changed anything.  It was a plug in and go sort of setup.

OK, thats good.  If your using something that's Windows based, tap the Windows key on the keyboard and type cmd  Just those three letters, no spaces.  When the DOS window pops up type nslookup and hit return  That will tell you the DNS server that's being used by your piece of kit.  Post it up here so we can see where its looking for stuff please

Re: Cant access a website that I use regularly

It should say something like:

Default server: cdns07.plus.net

Address: 212.159.6.10

Re: Cant access a website that I use regularly

So the list of knowns is:

  • Link works everywhere except for your parents network,
  • You have tried the 2704n and a BT HH5 with the same results,
  • You have used multiple devices on your parents network with the same results.

It is looking like it maybe a DNS issue as that would be the same i.e. sent by Plusnet to the router when it logins onto the Plusnet network for the first time. I see @adrianscotter is asking for that information too so I let him lead.

For reference if you need to alter the DNS settings on the 2704n there is a recent thread with pictures in message https://community.plus.net/t5/Broadband/Plusnet-s-own-DNS-servers/m-p/1415951#M312751

To access the correct page on the router, you first connect to http://192.168.1.254/expert_user.html

the Auto option is for Plusnet's servers, Google for Google, openDNS for OpenDNS and Manual allows you to enter your own. If still set to auto then try Google. You can always put it back it it doesn't fix the issue.

Re: Cant access a website that I use regularly

@SusyGee

It maybe worth login into your parent's router and checking out which DNS setting has been selected using the details in my previous post. If it is set to Auto then it will be worth a test to change it to Google. The router will probably ask to reboot when that setting is changed. Click to allow and when it comes back try the prescription line website again.

If it works then it was the Auto setting at fault somehow. If nothing changes then you can put the router setting back to Auto if you wish. Lots of people use the Google DNS (I do) so it is safe to leave it that way if you wish.
