Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Text message received saturday.
"From our logs it would appear that your fault is now resolved.
Due to the very nature of faults, we can only request that you monitor the connection for several days, in order to confirm you are satisfied this is resolved in full"
I repeated the ping tests on bbc.co.uk & 208.67.220.220 and the results are the same with no responce from hosts in the middle hops. It doesn't do that with dialup or mobile bb.
My profile has dropped down probably caused by having to reboot the router during the training period.
23.09.09 12noon (First day connected)
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4211 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5632 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps
---------------------------
26.0909
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2674 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4064 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3000 Kbps
The estimated speed for my line is 4000 Kbps and 2.1 miles from exchange.
I'll wait and see if it improves..

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Your profile has dropped due to the connection speed dropping.
I suspect if you look at the router stats it will show a noise margin of circa 9dB. When you first connected it would have been 6dB but with the problems the default margin has increased.
Can you borrow another router to check what happens as I am beginning to suspect the router.
You said earlier that you had reset the router to the default configuration.
Can you check the settings to see if it matches these

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Yes the connection settings are the same as those, under the ATM VCC button.
Cannot borrow a router will have to buy another, but I don't want to disconnect anything until the training period is over.

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

If you ask PN will probably lend you a router.
It's best to get this problem sorted ASAP.  If you get sync rate problems during your training period then BT will have artificially low values for your line and you may have problems later if a speed fault develops.

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Update. New router delivered( had no line filter so using old) Belkin F5D7632-4A connected yesterday. Today Bt Tester results:
1.10.09
Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 2500 k
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2231 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4032 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
Tried two website speed tests which gave 2300 Kbps
The estimated speed for this line is 4000 Kbps
I don't think there is much more I can do, perhaps a new filter, and wait for an improvement..

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Had you not already tried using a new filter?

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

No, I have always used the dlink filter that came with the old dlink router.
Is a new filter likely to help with this type of problem.
I am keen not to break the connection again for a few days.
Please advise..

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

If the filter is faulty then it could make a difference.  The only way I know to check this is to try another filter.  If you don't break the connection too many times it should not be a problem.  i.e. leave it at least 15 minutes between resyncs.
If you can do without your phone for a short time then you could plug your router into the test socket without a filter for a while.

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

A new filter seems to have created its own problem.  Undecided
Plugged it into the test socket and plugged in the the telephone line only, nice loud clear dialling tone. Then plugged in the router line as well and this created a slight hiss.
Went back to the old filter, no hiss.
Better stay with the old filter for a while..

Yep, sounds like the other one was faulty.

Re: Cannot connect to internet.

Yes but that was the new one !
Things seem to be improving slightly, two website speed tests now show 2900/3000 Kbps and the Bt tester.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2812 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4224 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3000 Kbps
Hope that continues.
