Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

It's been a long time since I last played with these commands, but IIRC:
the only devices shown should be the ones entered by the "wireless macacl add" command, look at it as priming this feature with devices you wish to be able to enable / disable on wifi.

Glad you've got it working.  Cheesy
Do you know what was causing it not to work, do I need to improve the instruction on the webpage?

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

Thanks npr.
And I think it was the first part of the instruction : "wireless macacl list". You have to put the mac/physical address after that command, then follow on with the rest of the code. That's obviously why it kept saying 'station not present' even though it shows up on Home Network as being 'active'.

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

Hi all
Sorry to bump up this thread but it seems one of the laptops can't seem to access Youtube. This is after I 'allowed' it to connect back again. All other sites are fine except for that one Huh
What's gone wrong?

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

The commands in this thread can not possible be preventing the laptop from accessing youtube when it can access the rest of the internet..
Have you looked in the routers parental control section in the GUI?
That's the only settings in the router which I can thing of which can block a web site.
Alternatively are you using opendns and have blocked youtube with that?

Had a look and there's no websites added.

The thing is, it's not my laptop that's having the problem. How would I be able to check if opendns was used and how to 'normalise' it ?

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

To test the dns, please open a command prompt window (window key + r then type cmd [enter])
In the command window enter nslookup youtube.com -- please post the result from that.
This is my result, yours will have a different server IP.

C:\Users\npr>nslookup youtube.com

Address:        127.0.0.1#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:  youtube.com
Address: 216.58.208.78

Also can you please check the laptops date and time is correct.

The result below is from my laptop which is fine. Would it be different from different devices ?

At the moment the laptop in question isn't with me. As soon as it is, I'll let you know if that info is correct. And how would an incorrect date/time affect a site like Youtube ? - or possibly any other ?

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

The nslookup test shows that PC is using the router for dns service, it also shows it's getting the correct IP addresses for youtube.
You need to test using the problem laptop, that may not be using the router for dns.
The laptops date setting is important because you say you have problems accessing a secure site. The browser needs to check the certificate for that secure site, if the laptops date is wrong the certificate may appear to be out of date.

Re: Can you disconnect certain devices from the internet?

I've managed to resolve the issue. All I did was to create a new profile and everything seems to be back to normal. But before I did that, there was a lot of junk on the laptop like downloaded 'pc protection software etc'.. Maybe they were somehow interfering with the process?
And thanks for the info. re. time and date Smiley

That's the type of fault we could have been chasing round for ages.
