Re: Can we do anything about the BT speedtest?

While it might be connected to a different issue I'm experiencing: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,103927.0.html
I thought I'd post my experience of the BT speediest from last night.
The first test I did at 22:29 showed my upload speed was higher than the upstream profile:
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 5.33 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 6.38 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 518Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps

Is this possible?
Then an hour later, and an hour after that, both times the speedtest failed to complete, giving an HTTP Status 500 error:
Quote
HTTP Status 500 -
type Exception report
message
description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

There must be a better way to collect data to send to Plusnet (and BT) to help track down errors...

http://test.speedtester.bt.com/
Seems to be dead for me and has been for a number of days now.
Found an alternative BT tester that "worked" but the results weren't believable. At least it gave the profile which is something, just.

Where did you get that url from? You should be using http://speedtester.bt.com/

The incorrect link restores "reasonable looking" results - it's a better link that the correct one.

Yes that's good its started working again.
As to where I got that link - from Kitz .
That link always seems to give more consistent and stable results.

Re: Can we do anything about the BT speedtest?

I don't see how that could be given that:
C:\Users\John>nslookup test.speedtester.bt.com
Server:  vnsc-lc.sys.gtei.net
Address:  4.2.2.3
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    test.speedtester.bt.com

Re: Can we do anything about the BT speedtest?

The fact that they resolve to the same IP address proves nothing, they could still be running completely different services. However, in this case, they look and behave the same to me.

Re: Can we do anything about the BT speedtest?

Just noticed today that the BT Above 24Mbps Beta tester now shows  upload speed test and Ping Latency figures whereas yesterday it only gave download information.
