Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Absolutely gutted.

I'm getting the same periodic disconnects according to the system logs. TP-Link have not been helpful via support. So I'm not sure of the way forward. The new router is doing the same thing as the old. I'm wondering if there's a power issue on my sockets or if there's an issue with the chipsets in the two TP-Link routers I've tried. Here's my log if anyone can interpret.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

As suggested above, now you have tried an alternative router, you need to complete the fault report please.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

I've raised the fault with Plusnet.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Thanks for raising the fault Dean.

I've added a reply to your fault ticket which you can view from Here however for visibility in case anyone on here have any ideas or can help, what I've done is order you a new router to try to narrow down where the issue lies.

While not always indicative of a router fault, our records are showing your connection dropping due to "User Request" so before we go down the route of an engineer visit I'd like to rule out the issue to be with your TP Link router/settings even though I understand you've tried two, and any internal wiring to be the cause for the issue.

Your new router will come with a new microfilter and should arrive within the next few days.

Once you've received it could you connect it into the test socket as explained Here please? I'd also recommend letting us know over here when you've done this as we'll need to reset your line to remove the speed restrictions applied automatically, then you'll need to monitor things and see how they go.

If this resolves the issue then we'll need to put things back how they were one at a time to try to figure out what was causing the problem. If you are however still experiencing connection issues, following the above steps we'd need to arrange an engineer to investigate this so I'd recommend replying to the ticket with your availability and we'll get it booked in.

Let us know how it goes. Hope this helps.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Dean,

Which TP router?

Can you turn on all of the diagnostics please in the logging?

I have a vague recollection of seeing a TP router I used once dropping the connection and reporting "User Request" as the reason.  Some time ago, slept a bit since then and I do not have access to that router / user any more.

The first router was a TP-Link TD-w8970 and the replacement one is a TP-Link VR2800. Here's the complete log for the last day or so.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Well I can see two PPP session drops there - one apparently “User request” with no indication of xDSL being down and the other 06:42 today being clearly associated with xDSL down.

As I noted, I recall TP routers doing this ... you might want to ask TP support why.

It wound have been useful to know why xDSL went down this morning. It would be worth while looking to see if router stats (link below) works with your router and set up xDSL stats monitoring.

I also observe quite a few issues being reported on LAN1.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Thank you Plusnet for the support. I have the white Plusnet router that has arrived in the mail installed in the BT master socket with the microfilter.

Just before I switched out the TP-link VR2800 for the Plusnet one, I did check the log and saw that the router had been up for 4 days and 5 hours, so maybe something has been fixed or maybe me being optimistic.

As advised by email, I am posting here to let you know the Plusnet router is now online.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Hello @Slay

Looking at your connection it definitely seems better, other than one drop this morning it has been stable for the last 3 days. I would advise to keep a close eye on it and get back to us if the drops reoccur and we will investigate this further for you.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

I have made some remote changes to the settings on your line which has increased your speed, which you should notice the difference within the next 4 hours. Get back to us if anything changes.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Thanks SammyM. The speed seems much improved. I am away next week, so I intend to leave the Plusnet modem in the master socket for the next 10 days. If my connection is stable, am I OK to replace the adsl faceplate on my BT socket and keep using the Plusnet modem, and following that remaining stable for the week switching back to my own modem?

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

I can not see a problem with that @Slay

Doing it in stages will help rule out each step as a cause.

Let me know how it goes and I hope you enjoy your time away CheesyThumbs_Up

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

So I've had three disconnects so far. One on the 26/6 at about 7:10PM, one on the 28/6 at about 2.00 PM and one on the 30/6 at about 8PM.

Re: Can I request a profile reset please?

Hi Dean,

Thank you for letting us know how you're getting on, I'm sorry for any inconvenience that the connection issues have caused you.

It sounds like things have settled down at the moment, the current level of drops is within the expected range. We consider anything up to three drops in 24 hours or six drops in 72 hours to be normal broadband behaviour. Please let us know if the drops become more frequent than this or if you experience any other problems with your connection.

Regards,
Emily
