Can I connect via PPPOE? (Standard ADSL)

Is it possible to connect over standard ADSL broadband (Not fibre) via PPPOE.

Yes you can use PPPoE over ADSL if your ADSL router supports it.  PPPoA is preferred as it has lower overheads than PPPoE.
Otherwise, a non-ADSL  cable/fibre only router (eg. Asus RT-N66U) configured to use PPPoE, can be connected via ethernet to a dedicated ADSL bridge modem, or a router operating in 'bridge' mode..

My Belkin router automatically connected me via PPPoE and I haven't noticed a difference to the previous PPPoA connection.
zZz what do you mean by 'lower overheads'?

Thats good then, I am wanting to use my old router from when I used to have fibre at my old place before I moved to an area without fibre. The supplied plusnet router is not up to my needs.
Just waiting for the modem to be delivered

fwiw, if you have the supplied TG582n router, it can be configured as a bridge modem by entering some telnet commands:

Put very simply, PPPoA usually supports MTU of 1500.   PPPoE requires a lower MTU of 1492 - due to slightly extra 'overhead'. If you google, you should be able to find a far more technical answer than I can provide here.
