Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have raised a ticket, but Plusnet staff seem to keep fobbing me off and telling me to wait 72 hours to see if my line will stay clear for this amount of time. Surfing on a 0.25 Mbit connection (it was 0.135 two days ago) is NOT fun. Here is some info I grabbed from my router:
Link Information
DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 4,672
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.0 / 10.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 9.0 / 14.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
On this page (https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed) it states the following:
Estimated line speed:
6 - Checked on 2010-02-26 19:34:02
Current line speed:
250
I am assuming that 6 means 6 Mbps, as this is the line speed I was receiving for three months with no issues whatsoever. I am also assuming that 250 is the speed that plusnet currently has my line limited to, as BT have already raised my connection profile. I would like to copy paste the information from the BT speedtester, but unfortunately it is currently not working.
I have changed my microfilter and am plugged into the master socket. Now I would like me speed back, especially seeing that I am paying 20 pounds a month and not receiving what I am paying for.

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:  13.0 / 10.0
with that short length of line your on you should be syncing at a really good speed, whats holding it back is your noise margin at 15db. If your on adsl2 its likely the  <a href="http://community.plus.net/library/broadband/dynamic-line-management-dlm-on-adsl2/">DLM</a> has put a banded profile on your line.
what router are you using?

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Hi there,
You don't need to paste the BT Speedtester result, but if you can tell me what the IP Profile section says I can change it our side to match.

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

I can't remember exactly what it said - that is the problem.
I am pretty sure it said 4000kbps this morning. Yesterday I think it was 6000kbps.

http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm
can you get routerstats up and running, set it to 8 seconds and 900 points per graph. this should give you 2 hours per graph and get it to save the graphs to a folder.
your probally best at using routerstats lite and not the full version
this will monitor your (snr) (noise margin) signal to noise ratio and give an idea of what your line is up to

at your current sync speed your bt profile will be at best 4000kbps now or in a couple of hours when it updates
if your downstream attention is reported right by your router then you should be at max sync rate for your product. input it here and see http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

I just managed to carry out the speedtester again:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 202 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-4000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 4000 Kbps
I will download the software and run it. Thanks!

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Okay, routerstats lite is up and running.
I shall post images in two hours time and see what it all means (as I am somewhat confused).

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

basically your wanting the snr gaphs line to be flat with no big spikes heading towards a value of 0db. your hopefully will be at 15db with a slight half db vary up and down

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

I've changed your profile to 4000 on our side, it'll need a reboot to take effect though.

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Whoop! Back to 3.5 Mbps! Hopefully the speed will normalise in the next few days back to the normal rate of 6 Mbps!

Re: Bzzzz ... slow broadband!

Did you change anything as your attenuation figures have dropped by a lot
