Bt profile droping all the time

My internet speed has been slow from 22nd of December. Raised a fault on 29th of December and was told  my BT profile and PN profiles were both down at 350Kbps but was told i was sycning at 5344 and to wait 72 hours and my profile would rise. Checked my BT profile yeterday and and it had gone down to 250Kbps. Checked again today and it was down to 135Kbps. Any advise on what the problem could be.

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

My first thought is that you have something like a Sky Box unfiltered.
Can you connect the router to the test socket with a normal phone and see what happens over a few days.
It would also be worth asking Plusnet for the times when the low sync took place to help in identifying the problem.
Can you also post your router stats - noise margin, speeds, attenuation.

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

Looking at your figures it would appear that there was a resync at about 8.15pm yesterday with a 15dB or 18dB default noise margin - was this resync initiated by you or did it happen automatically
As your error rate is very low something of an intermittent nature is really upsetting your connection.
Which router are you using

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

The resync was by me, lost internet connection completely and had to reset the router.
Router is a Thomson TG585 v7

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

Looking at your connection logs, you've had a number of dropped connections recently. Over the last 3 days there has been around 20 disconnections.
Is your modem/router connected to the master socket through a single filter?
Does every other item using the phone line have a filter connected?
Have you got an extension lead connected?

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

Router is connected direct to the master socket
Phone line is connected to the master socket through a filter

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

Can you try using the test socket which will isolate it from any internal wiring - also do you have another filter you can try

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

Router is already connected to the test socket
Will try another filter

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

I see that there was a resync at about 3.30 this morning - assuming that you didn't have a power cut something happened to your connection.
Can you try installing Routerstats http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm on your computer and leave it running overnight. This will hopefully give us an idea as to what is happening

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

That was 3.30am yesterday morning Jim, the connection has been much more stable since then and hasn't dropped at all. It's currently been connected for One Day, 6:45:24 (on going).
If it stays connected and your sync rate stays at 4928, I'd expect a profile of 4000 to be applied by Thursday.

Re: Bt profile droping all the time

with a default noise margin of 15dB or 18dB synching at 3.30 in the morning I should hope it is but it still leaves the question of what is damaging the connection and causing such a high default noise margin
