Broadband spped unstable

Hi
I am having trouble with my broadband sometimes the speed is 1420kbps , but recently its been dropping to 128kbps mostly in the evenings and first thing in the morning.
I am currently on the 60GB bandwidth package so I cant understand why this is happening.
Regards
Michael

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Hi
I have no extensions plugged in, my son lives a couple of hundred yards away and he's complaining about the same fault he is also on the 60 gb package.
So I am thinking the fault must be on the line.

Re: Broadband spped unstable

To be honest , with your line attenuation and noise margin, the sync speed is pretty close to what you should be recieving, you could try a few things such as a good quality dsl filter or try another router, as your line is quite long there are a few routers on the market that help with long line speed and stability also you could try and sweet talk someone and ask if you could have your Noise Margin reset back to 6db that could also help , do you suffer many connection dropouts at all ?

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Hi Paul,
I am not suffering from dropouts , but sometimes the internet is that slow I just leave it and when I do a spped check it shows 128kbps,
There doing work on the lines at the minute installing fibre optic cabinets maybe that is causing some problems.

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Hiya Michael,
To be honest mate ,I would sit tight if they're installing FTTC or FTTH in your street and if you wanted, upgrade or change isp to take advantage of the technology ,  I've got to wait till December 2011 , wish I was in your shoes

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Those stats are dreadful, both downstream and upstream. With 46dB attenuation your downstream sync (connection) speed should be around 5000kbps rather than the 224kbps you have.
First thing is to establish whether the problem is internal to your property or external. This page gives details of internal checks. It might be helpful to mention that using the BT Availability checker to get an idea of your line's capabilities could give misleading results. That tends to report what you've got now if there is an existing connection - and that is rubbish. You should expect to see connection speeds around 5000kbps.
When checking the effects of any changes, please check sync/connection speeds and don't bother with speed tests. It can be several days before any improvement shows through with those.

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Hi
I was doing the checks in my home and phone my mobile phone to check the line and a completely different telephone number was coming up on my mobile phone.
I tried it twice and it was the same thing.  No wonder somebody who tried ringing me the other day said some stranger answered the phone.
I think there must be water in a box after all the heavy rain everything was ok before the wet weather arrived.

As Plusnet are your phone supplier, report it to them as a crossed line.

Hi michael41,
Your profile has now lifted to 2000k so you should be seeing that at your end now.

Re: Broadband spped unstable

Hi chris2005,
Apparently the work is scheduled for tomorrow and with this type of fault we expect the engineer to resolve this externally rather than have to visit your property.
