Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Hi,
Hope some one can help...I',m not very technical but this is what I know.. I've not made any changes to router / other devices.Everything is as it was when the speed was ok.

The broadband speeds have gone very low.  They're not very fast anyway (< 5 meg) but now down to < 1 meg
There is no additional activity (P2P / Games Console) at the moment.
Speed test results below:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4797203941
I've tried a trace route to BBC (if it helps) below:
1  router.belkin (192.168.2.1)  2.793 ms  1.202 ms  2.144 ms
2  lo0.10.central10.ptn-bng02.plus.net (195.166.130.190)  904.167 ms  816.362 ms  1027.681 ms
3  irb.10.ptw-cr02.plus.net (84.93.249.2)  920.351 ms
   irb.10.ptw-cr01.plus.net (84.93.249.1)  921.369 ms
   irb.10.ptw-cr02.plus.net (84.93.249.2)  778.590 ms
Could it be something local to my exchange - work / upgrades ?
I can do more traces etc if need be.
Thanks and hope you can help.  Smiley Smiley
Edit:
I've also used BT test site: http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/diagnostics.do
Here are results...
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.72 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1.2 Mbps-4 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 3.78 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.61Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Your line is disconnecting a lot, there have been around 200 disconnection per day yesterday and today.
I've increased the SNR to try and make the line more stable, which in turn may help the speeds increase. However I'd suggest opening a fault report at https://faults.plus.net

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Thanks for the help so far. I've noticed the connection is slightly more robust but still no speed > 800mps Sad
I've raised a fault ticket.
Some more stats from the router..
Connection Type Interleave Path
Status Show time
Down Up
Data Rate 2712 kbps 888 kbps
Noise Margin 9.0 dB 8.3 dB
Output Power 17.6 dbm 12.5 dbm
Attenuation 45.3 dB 27.1 dB

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

It's still dropping a lot more than I'd like to see, so I'll let our faults team pick the ticket up.
In the meantime I've made an adjustment to your profile to try and give you a bit of a speed increase whilst the fault is investigated.

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Hi,

The speed is definelty better (> 1 meg now) - although i had to reset modem a couple of times. I'll try my old modem (the plusnet one) to see if that resolves anything too.

Thanks again. Any idea when the faults team may be in touch.
EDIT: tested old router - still same. Embarrassed
EDIT 2... I'm now using the test socket in the BT Box and it seems much faster (almost 2 meg now) - is it ok to leave my router in there for the time being ?

If it's working fine in the test socket, then I'm concerned that it could be internal wiring causing the issue.
I'm just testing the line to see what it's showing now.

The number of disconnections has come down, can you leave the router in the test socket overnight? I'd like to see what the error rates are like for a period of time.

No problem. I'll leave it in the test socket tonight / tomorrow. Cheers,

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Hi,
Quick update:
I used the BT Fault Finder at https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking It found a fault outside of my house and has raised a fault report for it (VOL053-6637347594465) Date to fix (Mon 09 Nov 17:00  ;)). Not sure if you need this information, so feel free to redact.

Ah, we won't be able to raise a fault on the broadband while one is open on the phone. It's best to wait and see if the phone fault fixes the broadband issue too.

Update from BT...

Fingers crossed this will sort the 'noisy line' and hopefully the broadband issues.  Cheesy

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Give us a nudge on here when the phone fault is fixed and we'll take a look, we'll probably need to reset the line.

Re: Broadband speed very slow since Saturday night (reset needed ?)

Hi,
BT have sorted the landline problem out. My broadband speed is still very low 287kps down and 979kps up.
Can you reset my line as discussed above ?
Thanks Smiley
