The BTW checker shows sync speeds on a 40/10 service that often confuses.

Thanks for that @cg1996 You should have edited out your username really, but I doubt it is a major issue.
From that, I personally wouldn't bother going for the 80/20 package, as you are getting the max on the 40/10, but if the price difference doesn't concern you and you really need the extra speed, then you could upgrade.
From the attenuation figures, I don't honestly know why the maximum download speed is as low as it is. Maybe someone else could enlighten us?
EDIT: A couple of strange points on there - your uptime appears low, and your noise margin high - have you switched off/disconnected the Hub recently?

I would be looking at wireless against wired speed tests, isn't the noise margin artificial high to reduce the sync speed?
Also some speed confusion with Mbps and MB/s, which might be misleading ?

Agreed we need some comparative speed tests, @Dan_the_Van - preferably from the BT speed tester.
Looking at that screenshot though, the OP is connected at the max for a 40/10 package - same as me (on a different ISP) and with the attenuation figures quoted, I would expect 35/36Mb/s down, around 9 up - as I am getting.
No idea about the SNR figures, but I didn't think they were used as a control mechanism - i could be wrong, though.

Hi there. No I haven't switched off the router. My wife has reported small downtimes during the day but nothing major.

OK, so there is a potential problem there - you are losing xDSL connection.

From the information gathered you could upgrade to Unlimited Fibre Extra, the advantages for you would be improved download/upload speed which can be important for home workers.
The next step is to see if there is an underlying fault with your connection, suggested next steps
1) If used, check your landline phone for noise preferably with a corded phone, dial 17070 and take option two, the line should be silent. If there is noise raise a phone fault https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/#phone
Please post the results on this thread for the next two steps
2) Using a wired connection run https://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ also click on the additional tests box and follow the instructions
3) From the Hub One home page navigate to Troubleshooting >Event log, there is a category drop down select WAN and copy and paste the current and previous page. This details your DSL connection events.
If there are many DSL errors raise a broadband fault https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/#broadband
If there is no obvious fault then wireless problems would be the next checks

they're not. The sync speed is limited by the provisioning , so on a 40/10 connection it's limited by the dslam to 40Mb. Since in general, noise levels increase as the speed increases, there is less noise when the speed is limited ( assuming the line would be capable of higher speeds if permitted) and the SNR Margin is higher . Think of it as headroom...

Cheers, @MisterW - you confirm my thoughts. Still think the OP has a problem somewhere, from the reported uptime.

Hi there!
I've done the line test and the line appears fine. No crackling or interference.
My speed test addition test:
Here are the first two pages of my event log. They are very long, sorry if the quality is low.

@cg1996 Thanks for that. Your speed test looks fine to me - very close to almost perfect for a 40/10 connection on the line/signal attenuations you reported earlier. Unfortunately, the logs are too small to read, and if I try to magnify them, they blur.
What is the DSL uptime reported on your Helpdesk, please?

Hi again,
my DSL uptime is 3 days and 23 hours.
I've just tried to copy and paste the results of my event log again but it flashes up with a message saying that I don't have permission?

@cg1996 Sounds like you've had no more xDSL events then - which is good.
I'll let @Dan_the_Van examine the Event Log issue - doesn't make sense to me, and I'm on my way out.
