Broadband speed pathetic

Can someone check at Plusnet end why my speed is so low.url=http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk][/url]
My usual line speed is 2.5mb,I have done a speed check on BT....... Download speed achieved during the test was - 85 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :160 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps Shocked
I haven't used my PC very much over the last 9 weeks due to spending most days visiting at the hospital,so it could have been down quite a while.

Your IP profile has been lowered to 135kbps. This is the throttling that BT Wholesale apply across their network and will have been caused due to a very low synchronisation event.
According to Wholesale's systems, your router was synchronised at just 160kbps on the following dates/times.
22/10/2009 12:45:21
20/10/2009 11:13:48
20/10/2009 11:11:31

Does your router tell you what your line rate is? If it's still 160kbps then you need to reboot the router to see if it connects at a faster rate.

All ok now EmbarrassedI should have thought of doing this myself,thanks again.
Dennis        Router now states... Connection Speed  2784 kbps  448 kbps
Line Attenuation 57 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 12 db 19 db

Mmmm I spoke to soon,although router has upgraded correctly my Plusnet speed test is still low,cannot check BT for 3 hours...  Huh

Now that your router has synced at the higher speed, you will need to wait for BT to raise the line profile on your line. Sadly this may take up to 3 days, and there's nothing that PlusNet can do to speed this up Sad - for more information, see here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm
My advice would be to run another BT speedtest as soon as you are able, post the results here and take it from there.

You need to find out why your router synced at such a slow speed or it will keep happening and each time it will take up to three days to recover.
Do the date/times Bob posted give you any clues?
Have you got anything plugged in to any telephone socket that is not filtered (e.g. Sky box)?

Hi dennis,
It looks from your logs that the connection is generally stable, or at least it has been since the dates Bob has posted. Let us know if it seems to happen a lot, it may be that we need to ask BT to enable interleaving (assuming it's not already).
