Broadband speed not up to scratch?

Hi everyone.

I just signed up to another 24 months with Plusnet. Last time I agreed to have part fibre, to the cabinet and copper wires to my home.

I've been told to expect 53GB download as a minimum and yet I'm only getting 43.

While I'm not a massive user and in fact upload speed is just as important I don't understand why I seem to be some way off.

I was told I'm close to the cabinet so should get it.

Last time, two years back BT came out for similar reasons and installed a new plate where the router plugs in (on its own) I'm measuring the speed at different times of day from a wired connection to my Hub 2. I've also made sure nothing else was taking bandwidth.

Would the more experienced members be able to offer any tips on how I can get nearer to the maximum speeds please?

Re: Broadband speed not up to scratch?

What speeds are you seeing in the hub itself?  Just because you are using a wired connection (100MB, 1GB, USB Adapter, WIFI>LAN Adapter and so on) doesn't necessarily mean you have a good and solid connection, eg it could be via a Hub/Switch or some other device.  You are always best to check the actual speeds as seen in your router if you can Smiley

I too am on an 'Up To' speed:

63-72Mb estimated download speed

55.1Mb minimum guaranteed speed

18.0Mb estimated upload speed

and regularly see download speeds of 70Mb and sometimes peaking at 91Mb 'at the router' but a Google Speed Test will show around 60Mb which is comparable to https://fast.com/ which is the suggested 'speed check page' of Plusnet.

Other things to check are your routers connections, make sure the leads are undamaged and you are using a good and undamaged Ethernet cable, etc.

Cheers

Re: Broadband speed not up to scratch?

Hi, thanks.

I'm measuring the speed by plugged in ethernet cable between my PC and the HUB 2.

The hub reports a downstream of 47 and up of just 14.

Re: Broadband speed not up to scratch?

That's probably a decent speed on the package you ate on but as you say, below the stated minimum. I'd ask PN to do a check for you. Cheers

@insussex

To assist, we need to see the full set of line stats please - speed alone does not provide context.

Are you FTTC or SOGEA?  If FTTC, do you have a telephone handset to check the line for noise?

Try running the faults bot - link below.

Hey @insussex 👋I tried calling you noting only the option to leave a voicemail, I hope you are well.

I can confirm that I am seeing the same issue on my end. The line has been syncing at an average speed of approximately 47 Mbps for download and 14 Mbps for upload over the last 30 days, I ran a test of the line and no faults were detected.

I suspect that the problem may be related to the Dynamic Line Management (DLM) profile, and we are in a position to try a DLM reset. As this may get you disconnected briefly, I need your confirmation as to when is best for us to process the reset.

I look forward to hearing from you soon
