Broadband performance issues

Web browsing is slow performance in games is fine for a few seconds, then ping will shoot up to 4000ms. No packet loss or choke in game. And no packet loss when doing a tracert to bbc.co.uk. Are there any problems at your end? I have scanned my computer and monitored bandwidth usage, I am not dl'ing or upl'ing any thing unwanted.
did speed test.  download is 013mbps!(ouch)  and upload is 0.35mbps (which is normal)

Re: Broadband performance issues

Been like that here:-
                                      Down        Up
18.03.11    Data Rate      2592KB    448Kb
                Noise Margin      16db      23db
                Attenuation        39db      22db
17.04.11                        2944KB    448Kb
                                          15db      23db
                                          39db      22db
29.04.11                          160KB    288KB
                                          35db        6db
                                          41db      23db
30.04.11                          160KB    288KB
                                          35db        6db
                                          41db      23db
01.05.11                          2880KB  448KB
                                          15db      21db
                                          40db      23db
All with newish Belkin Router which has never been switched off nor has it appeared to drop out. I do not have the advantage of a modern BT box with a  test socket, the entry would have the disadvantage of being in the garage roof and nor handy fro checking that the connection was OK.
Looks as though there was some BT activity for a few days does it not? I know thatwe have just had the majorty of our overhead poles replaced carrying our connection over one and half KM to the exchange.

Hi guys,
Are any of you still seeing these slow speeds?

Re: Broadband performance issues

Not here right now, performance is back to what would appear to be "normal" for me

Hi Jojo
Still plodding along here, did you find out what had happened?

Re: Broadband performance issues

Some web sites are currently fast (e.g. Plusnet webmail and Google). Others are slow or impossible.
Speed check eventually gave less than 100k just now, but mostly it was just hanging.
I'm on pcl-ag02, but I think I had this problem on the previous connection yesterday, so it's probably more general.

Re: Broadband performance issues

After speeds mostly between 450 and 1500k this morning, now up to 2500k. Distinction between different sites is no longer discernible, although the stop-start of the signal still is.

Re: Broadband performance issues

Hi Guys,
There's no particular thing that I know of that will have caused that. If you are still seeing poor performance I would suggest starting a different thread with all the detail you can.

Re: Broadband performance issues

Download speeds now around 4300k. Improving!
Meanwhile, I phoned up the site I had most trouble with. Their immediate response was "Are you with Plusnet?"
As he added "We expect the problem to be sorted out within an hour" I shall hope this isn't going to need another thread.
I can now access the other sites that gave me "Not available" earlier this morning, such as BBC.
