Broadband halved...please help

Hi Guys.
I have noticed that my once rock-solid 3 Meg sync (don't laugh!) has now dropped to 1.5 Meg. It has been like this for a few months now. Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint the exact date.
It may have coincided with my local exchange being activated for 21CN WBC.
Is there anything that can be done on the plusnet side to try and rectify the stiuation? Theres only so much stuttering netflix I can handle due to the kids playing minecraft...
Cheers,
Lee.
NOTE: I use one of those ADSL faceplates, and the router is plugged directly into the master socket.

Lee
Can you post up the details as discussed in this thread  - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html
No doubt others will be along with some advice.
Has anyone seen my signature, it's gone missing.

Re: Broadband halved...please help

I've just been running a few checks for you and can see that the actual synch speed you're connecting at is limiting you to a maximum of 1600kbps at the moment. I've submitted an SNR reset for you as hopefully this may lead to some improvement within 24 hours.
If not I'd recommend connecting to your router to the <a href="http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/master-socket-guide.shtml">Test Socket</a> (assuming you have one) then posting the info vultura rightly recommended.

Re: Broadband halved...please help

Thanks Adam.
Sorry for being a bit thick, but do I need to reboot my router to see if your changes have improved things? Or do I just have to wait 24 hours and see if it improves automatically?
Cheers,
Lee.

Hi Lee,
You don't need to do anything, just leave it the 34 hours and hopefully you'll see an improvement.
Let us know how you get on.

Sorry for the dodgy formatting.
Accidentally disconnected my router when I pressed disconnect instead of close window. I hope this hasn't screwed things up further!
Anyway, as per my original post, I synced at 3000 plus for a good  2 year+ there. Why has it recently dropped so much?
Thanks for your time!

No, that shouldn't have caused any issues. I'm sorry to hear that this is still an issue for you so I'm going to advise raising a <a href="http://faults.plus.net">fault</a> if that's still an issue after about 2.30PM (24 hours on from the SNR reset).

Re: Broadband halved...please help

Thanks Adam.
Just out of interest, do my stats (I imagine line attenuation & noise margin) suggest that I should be syncing a little bit higher?

Re: Broadband halved...please help

In all honesty yes but as you say perhaps only a little bit higher.

Re: Broadband halved...please help

Update.
So, a day later, that SNR reset didnt improve things.
I took off my adsl nation faceplate, and plugged the router directly into the BT Test/engineer socket (or whatever you want to call it).

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 237 324 0 122 2225 00:02:41
LAN 10M/100M 15539 11340 0 171 19 23:08:36
WLAN 11M/54M 573776 432516 0 9686 352 23:08:27
ADSL Link                 Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1600 kbps 672 kbps
Line Attenuation         58 db      15.5 db
Noise Margin         6 db         10 db
Still only 1600 kbps sync!
I can categorically state that used to sync at 3500 without fail.
I will raise a fault as you requested. An extra 1600kbps might not be a lot to most people, but when it doubles you internet speed, you want it!
Cheers,
Lee.

Re: Broadband halved...please help

Update.
After sourcing another router, and the problem still existing, I am fairly confident this is a problem at the BT end, and so plusnet will (hopefully - its been a week since the request) call out an engineer for me.
However, after all the mucking about setting up and trying another router, my connection has halved again. I am now the proud owner of a 1997-style 800Kbps connection.
Is there anything you can do at your end to get it back up to the dizzy heights of 1500Kbps?
Cheers,
Lee.

Hi Lee,
Your speed fault is currently with our suppliers for further diagnostics, once we have an update we'll let you know.

Re: Broadband halved...please help

Hi.
I raised a ticket for this which led to BT engineers visiting my house etc. To cut a long story short, they said "Nothing we can do - you are now stuck at 1.5Mb, and we cant move you over to the old network where you got a 3Mb connection.
I closed the ticket a few weeks agi, satisfied you had done everything you could do.
However, after a 'snappy' Netflix session, I sensed something had changed. Lo & behold, after 1/2 year+ at 1.5Mbs, I was now back up to my trusty 3Mb connection.
I'm not wanting to jinx anything, but has somebody changed something somewhere? Smiley Merry Xmas me!!!
