If Lex sent an engineer, then Lex found a fault ... probably by running a different set of diagnostic tests. Not all BT tests are built the same and a BT test has to find a fault to enable a engineer call out. At least the call to fix clock is now ticking properly.

Fair enough, @Townman - but like I said, I'm just curious. 😉

The appointment is for this afternoon (Thursday).
I'll post here with the outcome and any information I'm given.

Did he say what the fault was, or what he had done to 'rectify' it?
@LexLex2020 - further intervention required?

Oh dear ... I found a fault and assumed it was the only fault! ![]()

Update. The engineer returned and spent some time under a manhole cover in the pavement, then more time in the small box on the outside wall. We are now back online. He said that the cables (wires?) to our 55 year old house are aluminium, not copper, after a certain stage in the wiring., and that they are very fragile. Whatever he has done has worked 😁

Oh grim AL circuits or there part of.
I had one of those elsewhere. Very fragile ... I had a repair which failed within an hour - the joint which the engineer had been working on just dropped off!
If you see anything untoward, just raise another fault report.
@LexLex2020 - nice job!! Did you identify why someone thought a new router would fix this ... and how did they determine that "the signal is getting to the house"?

Ah, the dreaded aluminium! I don't suppose you have the option of FTTP (Full Fibre) do you - which would eliminate the problem?

Curiosity.
What are the chances of using aluminium lines to pull new fibre?

So now I have a new Hub 2 that I don't need.
There's a return address on the Royal mail label, but is that free to use?
