Broadband disconnection

I'm getting frequent (every few minutes) broadband dropouts.
Checking the phone line when dropped out and filter unplugged gices no tell-tale noise.
Unable to access router (Technicolor TG582n) as username/password has somehow been changed! Edit: after several tries (same username/password) I have now accessed it: weird.
Router shows red internet light sometimes.
Connection speed is down from 16/17mbps to 14 with blips down to 3.
Any ideas?

Hi Mardler,
I've tested your line a few times this morning, and each time it has suggested that there may be a disconnection in the phone network somewhere.
It may be worth getting in touch with your phone provider to see if they can get to the bottom of this.
