Re: Broadband Speed

Hi there,
Have you read this post I made awhile back?
Speed Problems and Diagnosis.
It sounds like BT have set your IP Profile at a very low level because you have reconnected briefly at a low speed.  Can you try rebooting your connection once a day for 2-3 days and the speeds should then increase.

Re: Broadband Speed

I have tried re-booting my Netgear router several times and it has not made any difference.
I have tried the BT Speedtester and it returned something like 85kbps I have checked the filters etc, I am at a loss for what to do next

Re: Broadband Speed

We have no information to help you....
What is your Sync speed?
What is your IP Profile set to - on portal see high speed broadband under connection settings?
What are your line stats from the router?
Post the results of the BT speedtest

Re: Broadband Speed

Hi there,
I think I've identified an issue with the additional usage on your account, can you reboot your modem/router and try a speedtest again?

Re: Broadband Speed

Now I am confused.
Some people say dissconect for 10 to 15 for 3 consecutive days and the speed will increase, others say that you must stay connected for 3 days to see a speed increase.
Which is right. My line can reportedly sync at 7000Kbps but is only at 5400 it was at 5600 for 3 days but I disconected and it came back slower.
Which is right?
Cheers

Re: Broadband Speed

No, you need to attain higher synchronisation speeds (connection speed with the exchange) in oorder for a profile change to be made.  Otherwise many USB Modem users would never see a speed increase!
General suggestion is to reboot daily.

Re: Broadband Speed

HI James,
what's the best way to entice the spped upwards?
Keep my speed for 3 days then disconnect and re sync or dissconect for 10 to 15 mins over the next few days and hope for the best.

Re: Broadband Speed

I'd just recomend a single reboot a day. Essentially, it probably isn't going to make a massive bit of difference, but that's the recommendation from BT.

Re: Broadband Speed

I'll try that as that is waht I originally believed to be true but I still have advice direct from PN in ticket ID: 22573142 which supports staying connected for 3 days. See PN replies 11th and 12th Aug.
Are there two ways of thinking or am i again being given incorrect advice in the above ticket?

Re: Broadband Speed

I will check my connection tonight following your comment,
I checked my S/speed this morning and it gave me 3000kbps but the speed test still only gave me 132kbps

Re: Broadband Speed

If you post your line stats (sync speed, noise margin and attenuation), and (assuming you are *not* on LLU) paste the results from the BT Speedtester it will enable the Community to comment on the speeds likely to be available from your connection.
