Re: Broadband Speed and Router

As buntrob - we're asking for the speed test results via Ethernet for good reason as there can be a huge difference between Wireless and Ethernet.

Re: Broadband Speed and Router

Hi,
Ok I will get the iMac down to the router and do a test for you....
I do understand that Ethernet can be better.  But why have I had 17mb for a good few weeks since I've upgraded to 21Cn and then all the sudden drops

Re: Broadband Speed and Router

Can you keep the computer on the wired connection for a bit ? See if the issues remain ?
It could be something as simple as your neighbour is now using wireless on the same channel as you and it is causing your speed problems. I get very variable speeds on my wireless during the day and especially in the evening when my speed can drop to 7 or 8Mb (down from 40+) when the neighbours are all on their wireless. My wired connection stays relatively stable though.

Re: Broadband Speed and Router

Well I know My channel is not the same as the neighbours so that rules it out...
I cant really keep this on wired as the router in a room where it awkward.  But as I say I have never had wireless problems...

Just because they are on different channels doesn't mean there is no possibility of interference.
Are you certain that last test was via ethernet? I'm surprised that the ping time didn't change at all, I would have expected it to be a bit lower via ethernet. Did you physically turn off the wireless access?
