Broadband Speed Test - who do you believe?

Hi,,
Just tested my broadband speed using PC World tester and Plusnet for comparison. I did two tests with each in quick succession and the results are as follows:-
PC World  2536kbps
Plusnet    5499kpbs
PC World  1949kpbs
Plusnet    5498kpbs
Upload speeds were similar at 350 - 390 kpbs with Plusnet showing higher speed.
I am not sure who is kidding who, so an explanation would be much appreciated, please.

Why don't you see what results you get using this speed tester for further comparison.

Hi Alex, the most effective test has to be speedtester.bt.com or download the 50MB file from here on port 80

It would throw into doubt the results from the speed tester at PC World.
I tried the tester I found at PC World and it was unable to download a file due to a internal error.

I'd also try the new BBC iPlayer diagnostics: http://beta.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics
All testers are unreliable and variable for reasons that are so wide-ranging there's no point even trying to list them.

Now thats interesting,Ive been doing some tests,just to see how good my connection really is (no complaints against PN just wanna see what Im getting). Anyhow,that PC World link,is to Australia for gawds sake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wont that make a hell of alot of difference,ie slower results,it is a long way you know
