Re: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

I'm wondering if for the external speed tester it would be better to use the BBC iPlayer diagnostic? This shows results for download and for streaming which might help identify traffic shaping issues.

Re: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

Marky - Your problem looks like your connection speeds, which may be a result of being a long way from your exchange.
Unfortunately there's not very much we can do about that Sad

just worth noticing that a single run of that test is about 32MB off your allowance. For accounts with a low peak allowance (such as mine) a few runs of that in an evening could soon mount up, so if it is of greater value than the others available, it may need to be used judiciously.

Speeds can be around 6000kbps and the next minute drop to below 700kbps.  There is no routine for these drops and can happen anytime and at off peak times. As an example this is a speedtest done yesterday

Re: Broadband Speed Issues - 03/10/09

Just to let you know, I had a conversation with Jameseh, and he has been collating these.
Keep posting them if you are having problems, it can only  help to pinpoint the cause.  A lot of people are reporting wildly fluctuating speeds, rather than a consistently slow throughput, which indicates either exchange or backhaul contention.

Cheers
B.

The problem that I am getting is whilst playing online games, sometimes its fine but other times my ping is jumping all over the place. If im not kicked by the admin for having a high ping, I quit the game anyway because it becomes unplayable. At the times when I am having these problems in games, speedtests do show a decrease in my connection speed. Already have an open ticket regarding this problem, however Its not progressing at all so yes I am seeking further help in this matter.
Thanks
