Broadband In Hull

Just seen a note on another forum that  the company called Karoo have the monopoly on supply of broadband services to the good people of Hull...
Is this true?
Can broadband in Hull ,be obtained from any other supplier.
Can Plusnet supply Broadband service to customers who live in HULL?

Re: Broadband In Hull

You could be right !  Just checked the post code of Hull Tourist Information office,  on  "broadband checker" and it states
Your local exchange is not adsl connected
alternative suggestions for broadband includ

3G services
"On speed"  (who claim to increase the dial up connection speed by 5 X therefore getting close to broadband speed)  (at a price of course)
Thanks for checking guys

Re: Broadband In Hull

you can get a 5Gb speed  mobile service for £15 per month  but not a lot of bandwidth

Re: Broadband In Hull

Well it's only slightly more expensive than http://www.karoo.co.uk/broadband/ which is the only option for ADSL

Re: Broadband In Hull

I thought that Kingston Communications (which presumably owns Karoo) was thinking about allowing BT Openworld to take over its internet subsidiary. I can't find any news articles saying this, so I'm probably wrong.

Re: Broadband In Hull

From the comments on the other forum, it appears Kingston have the monopoly, and there is a lot of local dissent about not being able to have a choice of ISP as the rest of the country has.... Apparently  people will move to BT in DROVES if they get the chance to, so BT had better get in there quick.... I` m sure that if other companies could make inroads they too would pick up customers.... and Kingstons subsidiary Karoo would go to the wall inside a week. !

Re: Broadband In Hull

Think this explains the situation
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/11/kcom_eu_competition/
If I had the choice I'd have a fibre connection from my house down to PN's equipment in London and cut BT out entirely

Re: Broadband In Hull

Hmm.interesting, in my view that's what happens when OFCOM isn't pro-active, and a monopoly wholesaler. Look at what BTw is doing to the market elsewhere Cry
@techguy, as long as it doesn't go via Milton Keynes eh  Wink
