Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

I thought he bought a ADSL faceplate for the lower half of the nt5e socket?

@njay
Yep. It was just the adaptor faceplate. I just checked the wiring to the socket and that's all there was. I didn't have to wire the faceplate. It was just left like that by BT. The master socket was outside but he diverted it indoors.

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

So you have no extension sockets? What master socket was outside exactly, and what is now in it's place? So you've actually got a normal faceplate and are plugging a filter into it? So your Master Socket now looks like the one on the left rather than the one on the right?
Do all your Microfilters look like this?

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

In a new build property and had a grey box outside the house with master socket on. BT then bypassed that and fitted the socket like the one on the left then put the ADSL filter in. That died after about 6mths though. Phone wouldn't work but did from master socket. Replaced the filter and both work albeit not quite as quick.

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

I thought that might be the answer, so to be sure about the faceplate/socket you now have, it's a standard faceplate with one socket on the front, into which you have a filter plugged. Into the filter is your modem/router in the one part and the phone in the other? And your Microfilter looks like this?

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

As far as I know its the NTE5 faceplate with master socket to the rightthen ADSL/phone filter plugged/screwed in.

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

This is showing the "Test" socket that's part of the backplate.
This is showing what I presume is what your front plate looks like then, with nothing plugged in it.

Phew, glad we got that cleared up  Wink
OK, just keep an eye on that SNRM periodically, if you see any step changes, post up the full DSL stats and if you know of anythjng that was switched on or off when the SNRM changed.
Do a wired speedtest when you get a chance, see if that's a bit closer to 6Mbps.

I'm on Gateway pcl-ag01
I will try to change Gateway now but shouldn't I be seeing a little bit more speed now I'm wired?Huh

Nothings really changed so is it worth keep trying different Gateways????

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

Probably not. Only if you are seeing slow downs or major ping issues at peak times might it be worth trying a Gateway hop.
The purpose of doing a wired test, is to make sure you aren't getting an slowdowns as a result of the wireless connection, which you don't appear to be at this time.
The previous download speed result 5.79 is pretty to close to the maximum you'll get with a 6Mbps profile, you will, as you've just found get slightly different results each time which will depend on Tester and Network traffic at the instant the test is run.
Looking at the stats, you've had no loss of sync speed still at 6903 with an uptime of nearly 8 days. But what is concerning is the SNRM which has varied and is currently down at 3.1dB, that's a large variation when there's been no loss of sync. Also the Upstream speed result is not good. So something is not right somewhere.
That sync speed and noise margin don't look as good as those in reply #14 although the errors are much better. It seems as though the filter arrangement you had for reply #14 gave better speed/noise margin results.
You could try following the advice I gave in reply #22 and try the previous filter arrangement and see what the stats are showing then.

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

Well as I'd tried everything else I reset the router and tested speeds again.
Ping is now 41ms via a wired connection. SNR is 6dB. What is the significance of the SNR? Lower the better and faster?

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

I explained that in reply #38. I hope you followed the advice in reply #22 when you "reset" the router. Posting the full stats is the only way of assessing the immediate impact of any change, and as far as speed tests go because it will take time for any change in profile to propagate to the Current Line Speed.

Re: Best BT Openreach ADSL faceplate?

I disconnected the Internet connection on the router page first then waited a few minutes before resetting using a pin.
The ping is back to 26ms on my PC wireless connection so will keep an eye on it. Will do some streaming and downloading again and post my stats on here again.
