Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Pierre-Pierre,
Could you point me to threads that cover this explictly.
Has anybody been able to buy an iPlate in their local DIY shop like Homebase, B&Q or Maplins yet?
The iplate seems to be an inline filter that requires NO wiring modifications.
It seems to only require unscrewing the NTE5 faceplate and plugging in the iPlate then plugging in the original faceplate with home extension wiring attached!
I googled iPlate and there are loads of hits, as you suggest.

The Openreach NTE5A master socket I blagged off the BT Openreach van has an extra inductor to filer the bell wire.
Has anybody been able to buy an iPlate in their local DIY shop like Homebase, B&Q or Maplins yet.
My local hardware store were selling the 4 wire micro filters and 4 wire telephone extension.
Although round, the extension wiring had no twisted pairs to reduce interference picked up on a long run.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Wish I could, tried using search, hopeless, but it was just after the first article, probably by oldjim

Then went back to Google and looked for the Community items found this

This thread covered it back in March.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

The thread mentioned above is very helpful. P Richardson's contribution especially.
It is still worth reading paragraph 7.3 in the BT SIN 346 suppliers information note.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Hi Doug,
SIN346 (now at v2p7 by the way, not that para.7.3 changed) doesn't apply to the i-plate as I understand it. The i-plate is just a self fit bell wire filter for those that don't want to disconnect their bell wire or fiddle with their wiring. Whether it gives the same performance (same comment to the new SSFP from OpenReach) as a disconnected bell wire or fully filtered face plate in this respect is another question.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Anotherone,
Oh dear, you are right!
I have confused Line Port and Line Box.
Is the Line Box is the master socket?
Is the Line port is the plug of the CPE filter?
Anyway disconnecting the bell wire DOES reduce interference, and improve performance.
My experiment where I connected my extension wiring via my Solwise microfilter was my "breakthrough" measurement.
I plugged the microfilter into the NTE5 test socket, and then the NTE5 faceplate and extension wiring into the telephony port. My downstream speed jumped from 3776 to 5248 kbps

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Sorry I think I've confused one point. No disputing disconnecting the bell wire reduces interference, it was a question as to whether the devices available to filter the bell wire alone ie, the latest NTE5 from OpenReach, or the i-plate, produce as good a performance as disconnecting.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Bit of experience from my end.
When I was trying to improve my line stability I compared the results from the test socket to the normal master socket with and without the bell wire to the extensions being connected. There was a clear improvement when comparing the test socket to the master socket with the bell wire connected but no change with the bell wire disconnected.
I then tried the same test with an ADSLNation filtered faceplate and having the bell wire connected or not made no difference.

Re: BT to sell self fit bell wire filter.

Nice to have that confirmed Jim, but it's specifically the performance of the bell wire only filters I'd like to know about. I don't think anyone's got hold of an i-plate yet?
