BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Not that I am really complaining - 6500 Kbps has, up to now, been the best that PN or BT have provided.
However, now I'm on 21CN and the BT profile has gone up to 7131 Kbps. The higher BT profile has been in place since at least last Wednesday and has not been matched by a change in the PN profile .
Should I expect them to match?
If I got another router - I'm using a borrowed Siemens Gigaset SE587 synching at  7616 Kbps - could I expect faster synching speeds from a 21CN connection?
Current BT speedtest gives....
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6346 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7131 Kbps

Jojo manually prodded the PN system the other day for someone, where profile had not changed.  See if someone in PN Towers spots the thread in the morning, or consider ringing and speaking to someone (don't know if broadband faults people work all night, or just up to midnight, so maybe chat with someone tonight if poss?)  It may be a tiny proportion where the BT and PN systems aren't "in sync" but clearly if it's your line, you notice...  Good luck if you do get some other router ... somewhere there's a table showing the data transfer speeds for various bands of exchange sync speeds, so you, if you can reliably stay connected at a higher speed to the exchange, you should see (eventually, or via prodding PN) a throughput increase.

Thanks for the information WebDude. I will take your advice and hope that this is picked up by someone from PN.
Will this come under the new facility outlined in the '21CN SNR resets' topic?

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Tony W,
just ran a line check
Downstream Link Info
Speed
        7616
Downstream BIP Interface Data
Current Line Rate
        6500
Firstly, although you are on 21CN you are on ADSL1 so your maximum would be 8128 (which would give you a profile of 7150) your rate of 7616 is the maximum for a line with interleaving on so your profile is 6500, just what we would expect. I've no idea why the speed test gave 7131 as there is no such profile, but I can assure you, as the test I have just run on the BT system, it is currently 6500.

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Something is a bit fishy as I have just re-done the BT Speed test and it is now giving:
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6223 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7623 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1169 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps

An upstream rate of 1169 Kbps?
The downstream is also an odd amount.
The IP Profile has returned to 6500 even though it was up above 7100 in the two previous measurements 5 days apart.
mybroadbandspeed.co.uk gives:
Quote
Today 11:35 5575 kbps (697kB/s) 369 kbps (46.1kB/s)

Which looks more realistic.

Hi Tony W,
have you thought about maybe going on to ADSL2+ ?

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Jojo,
I am a business user and I do not think that it is an option.
I understand that it might also involve obtaining a different modem/router, but I have not investigated it.

Hi Tony,
Yes, you are quite right, I was too busy checking your stats to notice your package.

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Jojo,
Seems a little unfair given the cost of business packages.
What are the chances of the restriction being lifted soon?

Think I saw a comment about BT speed test being a bit odd at present - doing some changes or something...

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Tony,
You can have ADSL2+. the reason we don't do it for business is that there is a higher fault rate on longer lines and as you will appreciate there is much more impact to a business that loses connection than to a residential line. You seem to have a good connection though, so up to you really!

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Jojo,
I am fairly close to the exchange:
Distance:- Direct:    978 metres
 (appx)* By Road: 1.29 km
Estimated speed 21CN WBC : 13000 kbps  (13 Mb)
so I might be a stable candidate.
How do I go about requesting the move to ADSL2+? Do I raise a ticket?

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

HI Tony,
Just had a word with one of our biz guys and he said yeah, just raise a ticket. He did warn that faults can take longer to fix, so that's another reason we don't normally offer it to biz customers.

Re: BT profile 7150 - PN profile 6500 after 5 days

Hi Jojo,
Thanks for checking. I am hoping that it does not involve a BT guy with a torch, climbing gear and a soldering iron visiting the exchange Wink
I had already raised a ticket (number 3517556Cool about 90 minutes ago and am awaiting a reply. The ticket system says to expect a delay of over 6 hours for a reply to any new ticket.
Thanks again,
Tony
