BT Speed checker

Tried the BT speed checker (and a few others) the results were quite interesting:
IP profile is 1500 kps
448 kps (up stream)
5952 kps  (down stream)
Actual throughput : 1321 kps
Interesting in that the other checkers say around 1400 kps !
But can someone tell me is that good or bad !  Showing my ignorance here !  Roll_eyes
thanks

Re: BT Speed checker

Hi there,
There's *very* little difference between 1321 kps and 1400 kps. I'd expect a certain degree of variance from one speedtest to another TBH.
Edit: In light of Peter's reply I think I may have missed the point somewhat! Embarrassed

Re: BT Speed checker

Bad.
The IP profile determins you download speed and it should be around 5000 to 5500 not 1500.
Sounds like you resynced at a lower rate and the exchange has reduced your IP profile. You will have to wait 3 -> 5 days for the IP profile to return to expected levels and that assumes you don't resync at a lower rate again when the time period will start again.
Bob,
I think you missed the download sync speed.

Re: BT Speed checker

Hi there,
It looks like your synchronisation (connection) speed has recently increased, which should result in an improvement to your IP Profile within the next 2-3 days.

Re: BT Speed checker

Interesting Bob. Thanks
Sorry don't understand resync thing.  Is it something I have done - or BT has done ?  How do I or BT put this right ?
Thanks

Re: BT Speed checker

Thanks Peter/ Bob . So as a new customer this performance may improve over the next few days - or have I  missed the point of it all ?  Huh

Re: BT Speed checker

Dave, looks like your IP profile's back up to 5000 now so your speeds should have increased. Happened around half nine last night. Smiley

Re: BT Speed checker

Bob, in your "Broadband Speed Faults: How to diagnose?" you say "....It is also imperative that every used phone socket in your house has a filter attached, whether it is used or not...."
A little confusing, however, do you really mean that a splitter should be fitted to each 'phone socket, even if the socket isn't used at all?
Perhaps you mean even if it's only used for a 'phone, not for a broadband device.
Sorry to appear pedantic!
Regards....Noel

Yep, I actually wrote that.
It's perfectly reasonable feedback which I'll amend when I get a chance.

Re: BT Speed checker

Who do I report a faulty report on the BT Speed checker to?
On the ultra-rare occasions when I could use it, it used to be sluggish - but working.
Now I get:
Java exception::access denied (java.net.Socket.Permission 217.32.105.42:50301 Connect...
Rubbish isn't it?

Re: BT Speed checker

I've never completed a speed test with the BT speedtester. If it works at all, it hangs at 96%. Other testers work ok.

Re: BT Speed checker

I've found I can only get it to work in IE, in Firefox it just hangs.

It does work in Firefox, probably only when the exchange is quite
