Newcastle can't be in it as our area code which covers entire Newcastle and Sunderland which is 0191...

No disconnection...
Last disconnection was 20 days ago - according to my BT hub 5

I think it's more that Newcastle is a core node and other exchanges connected to it will be affected.

My exchange would be connected to the main Newcastle exchange as it is within the city surroundings.
Again no disconnections so it is not accurate.  Undecided

It's accurate - it's just you don't know specifically which exchanges/connections are affected.

You may need to look at your modem/router logs as well to see which rhost you are connected to.
Also note this statement in typical Service Notices  such as http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1409039340.htm -

Am I likely to notice the work?
Yes, there's a chance that you may be disconnected from the internet for a period of time during the maintenance window.

And whilst more detailed notices from elsewhere give area codes that may be affected that doesn't mean all exchanges with that code will be.
Also to be clear in case there's any confusion the Disconnection is the PPP Internet session, not the sync (unless they happen to be pulling line cards in your own exchange).
