I have a Hub 3.0 A and it upgraded its firmware about 3 times over a period of around 2 years - shortly after I first connected it, and most recently last December.
I'm now using a Hub 4.0 A, and it also upgraded its firmware within a few hours of connection.
If you see something like this in the router's Event log, it gives you an indication it may be looking for updates:
[tt]Time and date Message
19:02:47, 19 May. (146956.280000) CWMP: session completed successfully
19:02:47, 19 May. (146956.030000) CWMP: HTTP authentication success from https://pbthdm.bt.mo
19:02:41, 19 May. (146950.160000) CWMP: Server URL: https://pbthdm.bt.mo; Connecting as user: ACS username
19:02:41, 19 May. (146950.150000) CWMP: Session start now. Event code(s): '4 VALUE CHANGE'[/tt]
It shows it connecting to the Motive server, which it seems to do about once a day. If it finds a firmware upgrade, it will be applied.
