BRAS dropped to 500kbps - do I need to do anything to get it raiesed again?

Sorry, this is probably a real newb question, but...
Overnight BT broke something at my exchange. When things finally got working again, I've apparently got a profile of 500kbps, with a sync speed of 8128Kbps. I live within shouting distance of the exchange. Browsing the web is a pain - it feels like I'm back on dial up. Plus I'm supposed to be working from home this week!
Do I need to do anything myself to 'persuade' it to raise again, like reset my modem, or does it just go back up, eventually, anyway?
I'm very wary of disconnecting as l don't want to make things worse by giving BT the excuse to drop it more!
Thanks,
Rick.

Hi Rick,
Not a great amount you can do really.  It's just a case of sitting tight and waiting for BT to make the profile change.

Over 48 hours now and I'm still stuck with a barely usable connection... does it usually take them this long?
Also, I can't run the BT speed test. I just get an error message:
Performance Tester was not able to find all the network details required for telephone number: [censored!]. Please check that it is the correct telephone number for your service, and ensure that the PC you are using to run the speed test is connected to your broadband connection. Try again and if the problem persists then please contact your service provider. ????

Re: BRAS dropped to 500kbps - do I need to do anything to get it raiesed again?

Hmm Sad
Profile was updated this morning - but with your resync event from two days ago.  So it's been rereset to 500Kbps.
Can you go to http://faults.plus.net and raise a fault for me and I'll try and get it sent to BT for you.  Concerned it may take a few days otherwise.

Done, although I nearly gave up at the 'you must complete three speed tests' until I just thought to press 'continue'.
I awoke this morning to find a pane of glass in our greenhouse had shattered - I hope the day's going to get better...

Let's hope there's not a third!
Your fault should get picked up fairly quickly and we'll get some tests run from this end.

Re: BRAS dropped to 500kbps - do I need to do anything to get it raiesed again?

Mornin' all!
Three days now, no improvement yet. Although I can now run the BT speedtest... which tells me what I don't want to hear:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 360 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps

I really, really hate BT!

Hiya - I've raised this as a fault with BT and updated your ticket.

Re: BRAS dropped to 500kbps - do I need to do anything to get it raiesed again?

Thanks very much James - I think we're cooking now!
Download speed achieved during the test was - 6223 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

iirc 7150 kbps is the max profile on my 8meg service.
Today's off to a better start!
Cheers,
Rick.
