BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Complicated but here goes... BBC iPlayer TV play again works fine.
But BBC iPlayer Radio listen again does not, all the programmes time out with The Content Seems Not to be Working error. Radio live is OK. This is on all my PCs using various browsers, they all are the same. BBC said they could not reproduce it.
I saw the status report that suggested logging the router off and on would resolve it. It didn't, I had many different Plusnet Gateways but tonight ptw-ag03 and pcl-ag07 none of them resolves the issue. I was working fine yesterday, but my problem started this morning.
An example http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00vjl1f
IF I connect my PC via O2 3G then it all works fine.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Not working here either, although its working fine using a UK VPN, so really looks like a Plusnet issue in some way.
EDIT: added gateway info: ptn-ag01

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

The above link works for me using Firefox on Ubuntu via gateway pcl-ag02 using Plusnet ADSL.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

OK here on gateway pcl-ag08.
Have you check if the firewall is blocking a new flash upgrade, it's what usually catches me out with iplayer Wink

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Just tried with firefox, IE and Google Chrome, same result all with latest version of flash and firewall disabled.  Strange.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

I doubt if this is a FLASH version problem.
The machine I'm on now is years out of date with Flash v11.2r202, and it works fine without prompting for any update.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Not a flash upgrade issue, as iPlayer radio live works and so does listen again when I use my personal hotspot in iPhone accessing the stream via O2. It appears that it is a routing issue to part of the BBC network from Plusnet. I have a fast fibre service which has always been extremely good with all streaming services. Plusnet Status shows issues with streaming sites and failed to make the promised update at 11.00 on 22/4/14. It is also OS sensitive as the service works on IOS on iPad, but I know BBC serves different streams to iPad due to the lack of Flash. It is not a BBC issue because a friend's connection via BT Internet can access the URL and play.
To those above who said URL is OK, can they actually play the stream audio, I can access URL, but the stream will not play.
All the BBC TV iPlayer services both live and watch again services are fine.
I use my PC a lot for listen again BBC service and miss it.
Update.. I have a WiFi internet Radio which plays the listen again 48Kbps WMA streams and that works OK. It seems that the FLV streams from BBC used by Windows are blocked.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

I've tested again, it looks like yet another Plusnet DNS issue.
The content in the link plays ok when using Google dns, opendns, level3 dns.
The content doesn't play when using Plusnet DNS -- tested twice to be sure.
Tracerts for completeness.

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Oh, another Plusnet DNS problem  Roll_eyes
I definitely don't have any Plusnet DNS servers listed on my DNSmasq servers, pfSense router, or squid3 proxy,
so I can't tell you what DNS I was using, but it definitely wasn't a Plusnet one ! - and I don't see the iPlayer radio problem.
I gave up using Plusnet DNS servers YEARS ago !  -  just another thing that Plusnet never get around to fixing  Cry

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

Correct: Plusnet DNS server 212.159.13.49, the only one I've tested, is broken:
$ dig @212.159.13.49 bbcodspdns.fcod.llnwd.net a +short
127.0.0.1
but a random level3 server works:
$ dig @4.2.2.3 bbcodspdns.fcod.llnwd.net a +short
178.79.194.12
87.248.213.153

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

So can I just change DNS in my router settings and it will be fine?  Cheesy

This is likely quicker than waiting for Plusnet to fix. I opened a Question and
was told "At the moment we're averaging a response time of 43 hours 41 minutes 32 seconds for new queries" !!

Re: BBC iPlayer Connectivity

I tried, but my old BT Business hub ADSL modem/router (am using a much better Acer router and the BT hub as modem only) isn't having it, claiming "Invalid PPP username" despite being fully connected and not having changed the PPP username..
Oh well, could be time to move to a slightly newer ZyXel modem that's been waiting in the wings (aren't electronics recycling drop-off points handy!)
